The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
.US domains.US domains
Web.com Names are like cjb.net Names
Not a real TLD just subdomains

These are generally horrible for resale, and don't make much sense for dev, either. cctld's like .cc, .ws, .nu .sc, and even .tk are better choices, IMHO.

Wait for ".WEB", IMHO! :gl: :talk:

5/23/05 - The database freeze for the .Web domain has been completed, and our upgrade and site migration has begun.

All the best!

.web.com is run by centralnic.com. they have assembled a number of 2-3 letter domains in the .com TLD that are like other TLD's. They are really only selling third level domains off of these names, and are not ICANN sanctioned top level domains.

Jeff, your link leads to an odd page.

There is a thread somewhere here about someone who thought they say .web (no .com) domain names avaliable, but I can't seem to find any proof.

I think you're talking about New.net extensions.

Good but too pricey !!!

These subdomains can be useful and they are highly
memorable eg insurance.web.com gets a lot of traffic.

However the .web.com .us.com .uk.com are way too highly
priced. If centralnic really want to get market share they
need to make these domains around the $10 buck area per
year at that price domains like aaa.us.com or aaa.web.com
would attract users but in the meantime they are far too pricey.
One advantage of the high price is that you can get memorable
names like insurance.us.com which might have long run potential.

IMO: if HTML.web.com is worth $4.75, then a 1-character is worth around $10.

They are basically only SubDomains

If you want a subdomain that is Worth big Money
Get your own Domain Name that is worth Big Money and Setup your Own SubDomains
in the Meanwhile I have One Subdomain that is Worth $20.00AUD
20.00AUD.com
Don't Worry about One Char /One Letter SubDomains
Any .com With Good Keywords and Type - IN potential will
always be better Value

I believe I remember an alternate root operator a few years ago operating a .web. Very similar to new.net. new.net basically takes third and fouth level domains and uses a plug-in to fool the browser into hiding the first and second level. Some alternate root providers didn't do this, but were only visible to people who made their un-official DNS servers as their default DNS, this bypassing or suplementing the approved DNS databases. Most alternate root companies have gone out of business.
