I have never known that the online game world is so big in value!
Here is one more quote from a blog(http://www.techsoapbox.com/hot-off-the-presses-wowhead-sold-for-over-1-million/ ):

Allakhazam.com was operated by a guy who used the nickname ‘Allakhazam’. He was one of the fiercest anti-IGE players around. I had once offered him $1 million (before WoW even entered alpha) - he wasn’t interested. Anyway, the site took a hit, and after a few years of struggling to survive, he eventually broke down. He sold out to IGE for roughly $7-10 million. The justification was that he sold the site to ‘Affinity Media’, which owns (but isn’t) IGE. Anyone with half a brain knew that they were the one and same.

7-10 million dollars for a game fan site, amazing!

I've sat on a few WOW based names for some time - or at least they have high OVT when it comes to WOW.

Still, can't get so much as a nibble off of most of them ;)

( ie: Ravenholdt.com <--- Tell your wife, quickly! :notme: )

and that's only the beginning, there are way...and i mean WAY worse examples out there...

http://news.com.com/Man+pays+100,000+for+virtual+resort/2100-1043_3-5945248.html

what's making this story worse? It's reverse economy. At least in WoW, everything is truly virtual, including the currency. In Project Entropia, the currency is directly exchangeable into cold hard US$.
There are tons of ingame brokers that trade virtual items for cash, until recently eBay was their heaven, since eBay discontinued the listing of virtual games, these brokers started with their own auction sites.
Other people pay to have their character skills increased, there are player farms in Asia, the so called "virtual sweat shop" - not the nicest depiction, but true nonetheless. If you have US$, you can afford someone else to do the grinding work for you. It's the downfall of many games, the downfall of many players and last but not least, the downfall of relationships at times.
There's even a forum to help people lose the addiction of online gaming - role based gaming that is...
People Pay and Play and for some it truly Pays to Play.

Didn't some guy die from playing WOW for like 50+ something hours?

I read where a famous comedian/tv celeb flew to a remote location that didn't have internet access in order to cut himself off from his WOW addiction... (don't know the validity of this claim though)

1. Sorry, wowfactor.mobi is useless

2. Affinity Media does not own IGE, but IGE owns Affinity Media. Clever excuse on their part :)

3. Wowhead's value was 0.0000000000001% domain. While those guys have gone out and bought some nice domains (eg zam.com), in general they don't touch domains. So sorry, no payday

4. Allakhazam was the oldest and most popular brand in MMO. It had subscribers paying every month just to access extra little features. It was a business decision that made sense.

I've never played on that site in my life and from what I'm hearing about the addiction level I guess I should count myself as one of the lucky ones huh?

Don't think I want to even start there now. Especially hearing someone had to cut himself off from the world to get over his addiction.... WOWEEEEEE.
