A VERY Sad Week...

I've had better weeks.

Just so all my Namepros friends know: My ex-mother-in-law, with whom I still had an important relationship, was terminally ill and suffered from severe dementia. My ex-father-in-law, a steady and and awesome man, could no longer take it, so he facilitated her journey into the next world and then left this world as well. He couldn't live without her, and yet he couldn't stand to see her suffer so much.

Please. Don't judge my father-in-law. He loved his wife and family fiercely. I can tell you this: the manner of their death does not diminish the fullness and love in their lives. In fact, I applaud his courage. Besides, the manner of their death does not define their happy times and lives.

I love both of them, and my grief stems from the fact that I (and their family, including my son, their grandson) will miss them tremendously. A generation is gone, just like that. I'm sad.

And still in a state of shock.

:'(

It is so sad.
I'm sorry for your losses.
As Blake said, they are in a much better place now together as they wanted to be.

Ms Domainer - I'm so sorry :(.

No judgement here at all. He did what he did out of love and compassion.

My thoughts are with you and your son.

Sorry to hear that :(
I can only echo Blake's comment - it's the end of suffering and the start of a new journey. May their smiling faces watch over you always.

Hold on tight %%-

What a shock. Perfectly understandable decision on your father-in-law's part. He must have loved her very much.

I have never seen a couple so in love.

They were married 63 years.

So many happy gatherings and holiday celebrations. Even after their son and I divorced, they still accepted me.

And they accepted my now-husband as well; he's taking this hard as well.

Their hearts were large, room for everyone who had the good fortune to know them.

:)

On the surface, the manner of their death is horrifying, but as my ex-hubby said, "My Dad was the most courageous person I know."

While I have some difficulty wrapping my brain around this, my father-in-law did what he thought he had to do.

My condolences! But, if the pain and dementia was so bad, then I agree, that this was a better way to take, as harsh as that may sound..
