What does it really mean to have a "parked" domain? Logic tells me its a domain that isn't online but isn't up for sale. I've heard a lot about making money with parked domains, but I don't understand the concept.

Can someone help a new guy out?

Thanks
adman.

Usually it is a one page layout consisting of all advertising links from google yahoo etc,
when someone clicks on an ad. the parking host sedo, fabulous, parked get a cut, google gets a cut and the domain owner gets a cut. It is online and many show up in search engines. It is best to park names that get traffic.

Oh, so you are saying you set up single page of just banners and ads, and that will rank well in the seach engines? I'd like to learn more about doing this. Where is the best place to start?

in order to get some income you need a domain with some traffic, you won't rank high in search engines with it but it is better than nothing. try bodis or whypark, for x rated domain names parking panel.

parked domain is for lazy or larger domain holder ppl. If you have several domains , better if you develope it.

Parking is a way of getting some revenue from domains you haven't developed yet.

If your domain has natural traffic such as people guessing the name & typing it into the browser address bar or has links from a previous use then people see these ads & can click on one. You receive a revenue share from the advertising company.

Depending on your domain & the ads it gets you may make a little or a medium amount.

As many parking companies allow sale enquiries through the domain it is also a way of advertising that the domain is for sale.

Hope that helps.

When you register a domain name, you can either "park" the domain or you can upload your own web page(s) to the domain. In other words, if you don't upload your own pages, the domain remains parked. Parked pages will usually automatically display ads that generate profit for either you, for the parking company, or both.

If you simply register the name and do nothing more, often it is automatically parked and the registrar get all the click revenue. But if you sign up for a parking program, you can use the parking company's nameserver settings, and they will pay you a percentage of all the revenue generated when people click on the ads that are displayed on your parked domain.

And know that you do not have to use your domain registrars parking service. You can register your domain and use the parking service of any one of many available parking companies. For example, you can register your domain at Godaddy, and choose to have a parking page from NameDrive, or Fabulous, or Sedo, or many others. You can switch the parking service any time you wish, to see which parked page generates the best revenue.
