Hello,
I just started learning about domain business, and got so excited that I bought some domains. Do you think some are worth something, am I on a right track? Here are few of them.

1-Ai.com, brokerscompany.com, bollywoot.com, sellingfirm.com, creditcardcallcenter.com, law-software.com, coloredmarkers.com, comree.com, PLW.us, travel-alerts.com.
Thank you :)

.US domains.US domains
I cant see any value in these, if you are new to this game, don't register any names until you have read, read and read some more, at least a few months

gilescoley is right.. & I would suggest you that,

If you think domain is worth something (obviously after reading reading & reading about domaining) then go for it. Many people will appraise your domain worth regfee or even less than it but you may find an end user who can pay $XXX or even $X,XXX for that domain. There are many such examples..

Afterall appraisal is all about what that specific person thinks about that domain. If you can find a person who thinks & want that domain for your expected price then it is advisable to go for it..

Good luck..!!

I would also look on the aftermarket and dropping lists rather than hand reg names, not much value in hand regging these days

How to check droping names (not expired but about to expire)??

Ok. Even tho they aren't valuable...
Some of these show good thinking (esp. for a noob).
Your names are not terrible. OK, some are.
Just watch the sales reports & see what buyers think are useful.

You are going to be disappointed more often than excited; it's just a reality of this business.

Be prepared for that.

It looks fun and profitable, but after hours of looking at spreadsheets, and contacting potential buyers, and shelling out $ for quality names, you learn quickly that this is an 18 hour job with a great deal of risk attached.

Best of luck on your adventure. Cheers.

Welcome to the world of domaining. As a start you should look at domaining as a hobby, in this process you can continue to learn and look for names. Going into domaining with no experience and expecting to generate an extra income will not result in success. Probably one of the most important skills is patience. This is reflected in all aspects of domaining from waiting for the right names that fit your budget and afterwards seeking opportunities for selling. Domaining is extremely time consuming and requires a ton of research.

Your current portfolio is not super bad so that's a good sign. As mentioned looking into expired auctions is one approach to get some decent names without schilling out huge amounts.

Good luck and hope to see you around this board.

Thank you all for your comments and word of advice. What is a grace period for getting a refund for domain, if any?

Coloredmarkers.com is better than the rest, in fact it's better than most of the sub-$5000 sales reported on DNJournal every week, not to mention the gems you see around here. The fact that you found this name tells me that you can be a successful hand regger. Your other names are wretched. Set a goal to register 4 more dot coms as good or better than coloredmarkers by year end. Your budget is $10 using godaddy codes. Continue next year and when you start earning parking ppc or make a retail sale, dip your toe in the aftermarket. Before long you'll build a strong portfolio, good luck!

Thank you for your advice, Ecalc. It's encouraging to hear that at least one name out of this few may be worth something. I splurged in the past 2 weeks and got about 80 domains, some with coupon codes, some without :o . It's addictive :) . And I still have a lot to learn.
What sites do you recommend listing/selling domains at?

Park at sedo $1999 BIN. Keep whois public. Don't spam (aka "reach out to") end users. No need to list at multiple sites, if someone wants your name they'll find you. $2k-5k is a retail sweet spot, if you sell 1% of your hand regs in that price range each year you're doing something right. Don't pay for anything - parking privileges, registration upgrades, search engine listings, appraisals, etc. "80 names" and "addictive" are danger signs. Slam on the brakes. Prune your dead wood with gusto via ebay/forum fire sales and drops. If and when your parking revenue picks up, apply to a better free service such as sedopro, domainnamesales, etc.

Definitely slam on the brakes as the esteemed ecalc says. Assuming Coloredmarkers is the only keeper of the 80, you are going to have to look at it as buying that domain for ~$600 minus any clunkers you can roll off on others. While controversial, I see nothing wrong with kissing a few frogs while getting a coloredmarkers.com. But you cant kiss eighty frogs to find one! You need to look at the frogs more discerning before putting on the lip gloss.

Good advice, thank you! Yes, I need to slow down on the domain hunt :) If I bought some of the domains with private Whois, I guess I need to change them to public? I read here that Voodoo is good for parking, is Sedo similar?

How long do you usually take to determine that domains are junk?

I hope not all 80 are frogs, :D There are a couple more that look promising...
