Its quite a big question, but with probably only two main answers.

Is the Bible LITERALLY true (the stories etc really did happen, eg The Parting of The Red Sea)

or

Is the Bible more subjective, with the stories not literally true, but carrying a great meaning anyway, and the interpreation in the heart of the individual?

Please vote in the Poll, will be VERY interesting. :)

I don't believe these are just a bunch of stories made up to con us in to being "Good". I think these things really happen, some stranger than others, but historically correct, so to speak.

I do know, however, that there are no snakes under my bed. (I Hope!).

I have to come in to both camps. I feel that the stories in the Old Testament fall into the realms of analogy whilst the Gospels are more anecdotal accounts of events that did happen.

Reasoning for this is things like the Garden of Eden - I believe in evolution and can't really marry the two theories up so accept that the Garden of Eden was a story to simplify how human life began - just one of many.

(On this note however, I have seen a documentary that explored whether the parting of the Red Sea was actually possible without any form of divine intervention and I remember it showing that it could have been done if a whole complex multitude of factors came into play which in turn could be said to be divine intervention - oh dear - my head is starting to hurt now )

Not to keen on getting involved with these sort of discussions online but thought I would give my 2 cents on this one.
