There are some very narrow niche Adwords customers who pay out extremely high amounts for their ads. They tend to be lawyers who offer very specific and rare niche services and who will pay high to have any surfer who types in their unusual keywords land on their ads. Some medical and financial niches also pay pretty high but it's usually lawyer niches when you skyrocket up into those kinds of CPC numbers.
The stumbling block is this: the people who pay those huge amounts per click... are basing that upon having pure targeted traffic. That means they don't want to receive a
ton of clicks, they receive a
few clicks and it's almost only from surfers who are seriously searching their keyword/s. If you were to set up a minisite around such a domain, drive traffic to it and try to get tons of those superhigh CPC clicks, it would suddenly dry up pretty fast for you;
Because those Adwords customers are basing those xx and xxx click amounts on receiving very low but targeted hits by strong potential customers. All of a sudden they're getting curious clicks from people simply checking out your minisite or parked page, you can bet they're going to make changes... complain about your site to google, lower all their ceilings in their Adwords campaign, etc.
This isn't new; this is what has killed minisites. Too many people built too many minisites or parked pages on too many exact match domains; and then too many advertisers got fed up with paying for Adwords campaigns that were clicked on by too many surfers who weren't really targeted traffic but were simply curious visitors to a minisite/parked page and clicked on an ad just because it seemed like the next thing to do, not because they're a serious possible customer.
Also, the $80 figure just gives a groundwork idea for what to base your projections on. Usually the average clicks are a small percentage of the top CPC listed. With an $80 CPC listed, I think most of your clicks will end up giving you in the $1.50 - $4 range, with maybe a few spikes of $8 or more.
Other variables enter into it... like the variety of changes Goog has implemented over the last couple years to really crack down on minisites and parked pages, especially clamping down on exact match domains.
Still, you mention nice search numbers, nice CPC, so if you can get this domain for a 'picker price' and not pay too much, and build it out considerably better than a crappy old minisite or parked page, it might optimize high with the engines and become well worth your while. Hard to say, without knowing the domain.
