I have a few 5L domains in mind that I'm thinking of purchasing. Some are in the category VCVCV, others CVCVC and one is CVVCV (pronounceable and brandable in my opinion). Should I go for it? Do you think the market for this category will be better or worse in 2018? Do you have reported sales or get offers for your domains?

Thanks in advance,
Merakilous

I have been doing well with cvcvc names, but i paid no more than reg fee for each one.

Can i ask what your looking to spend on these names?
Reg fee

If reg fee then go for it, i have seen a growing demand for these names in the last few months.

Feel free to drop me a pm with the names after you purchase them, id be interested to know what they are
Ok :) Thanks for the encouragement

I have TUPIZ.com

Is this what you mean by CVCVC domain?

Yes.
C stands for consonant and V for vowel.

Frankly, when I bought this, I had no idea that I was buying a CVCVC domain. I just bought it because it sounded cool & was previously used as a magazine brand.

I understand that this is not appraisal section, but if anybody wants to give their opinion, then feel free to respond or send PM.

I like that it seems like you only understood what CVCVC stands for just now :xf.grin: kkk

I can ask and I can buy...i'm not asking for permission, i'm asking for advice from experienced members, I wanna know their experience. That's all. If you don't want to share anything regarding this thread you can move on to a different one.
I gave you my experience in my post. I understand if you don't get it, just try to get it.

I tend to look at any unregistered domain with suspicion. How come it's still available if it's any good ?

Every domain was unregistered at some point mate......:xf.smile:

I sold my first hand registered on this forum, for $250, within 4 days!

So 25x return in 4 days is not bad.

You just have to register something sensible, which will fetch a good resale value.

Kate make a good point, as always. Watching 5 / 6 letter selling for 2k+, reg-fee domains look like a good deal so a plan and caution are important.

I picked Uneqld for reg-fee.
What does Uneqld stand for?

Yes but we are not in 1996, we are in 2017 and 130 million domains are registered in .com alone. The .com zone has been mined to the death by thousands of speculators over the course of two decades. If you find a name that nobody claimed for $10, ask yourself how you are going to resell it for more. It could happen. Maybe it is just a question of timing, being at the right place at the right time.
Of course, there are exceptions like recent drops, but a good name shouldn't remain unregistered for years.
The yet unknown domain names we are talking about must have been scanned hundreds of times, yet discarded by domainers. Maybe there is a reason. Just saying.
Now the names may be pronounceable and fairly brandable, but that still doesn't mean there is a buyer. Millions of decent names are waiting for a buyer that will never come, such is the reality of our trade.

I totally understand your point Kate. I try to be cautious when buying domains because you can never be sure that someone will buy it, even when more experienced domainers say to you that you should go for it. It's risky, it may be a total failure but sometimes you have to risk to gain.

It is just my opinion, but I think E, U and I at the end is weaker than A and O.

So Zieca.com is ok and biexa are ok but bioue.com and Pioue.com not as much

The person on here I can't remember his username on here but he owns AbleBrands they have some pretty decent 5L. Coms and quite a large quantity of them and they posted examples of recent 5L sales which gives an idea shat is selling
Thanks. I've been looking at recent sales and current 5 letter domains at auctions to see what names are doing good and names that aren't doing so good...

Yes, I understand your point but for instance Pikei.com was sold for $606, Ponge.com was sold for $423 and there are other decent sales ending in I, E, or U.

How would you rate letter priority in CVCVC:

1st: Any consonant can start. Maybe x, y, w, q are less valuable.
2nd: any
3rd: q, w, x, y, j no so popular, also hard to pronounce c or h
4th: a, i preferance
5th: s looks best, mayde d, c, r...

Just done a quick availability check on 5Ls to see which letters are most popular

1st: all 26 letters so it's not exactly CVCVC
2nd: all 5 vowels
3rd: all 21 consonants
4th: only a and i
5th: only s

This gets to 5460 combinations. Then I checked availability for the first 3000 on GoDaddy, in batches of 500, out of 3k about 240 were available for hand reg.

2nd vowel. Doesn't seem like it's that important. Pretty normally distributed, i slightly more popular than u.
u 67
o 46
a 44
e 42
i 41

3rd letter. This is more interesting. See results below.
q 72
y 34
j 25
z 23
h 20
x 18
w 12
f 10
k 8
c 5
b 4
p 3
l 2
v 2
m 1
r 1
d 0
g 0
n 0
s 0
t 0

You should read in reverse order, if many letters are available for hand reg, then it means the letter is not that popular. Q is clearly the least popular. 3rd letter Also - no domains for hand reg are available with d, g, n, s, or t in the middle.

Of course this is assuming 5th letter s, and 4th letters a or i. Otherwise there would be too many results to test. But it's still an indication.

I don't know, which sales platform you grabbed out the figures from, but while researching using shortnames.com, the past sales does not show any consistency with your results for the 4th and 5th letters.
I would agree with you about Q.

We bought recently Wkii.com ( obviously a play on Wiki.com with over 1 billion results ) and we paid no more than we would for a quality 5L.com We'd rather have Wkii.com We think it could be a great name for a future cryptocurrency or whatever in other words more chance to sell it for a large sum of money. One 5L.com we recently missed was Bingzo.com which we thought was a great 5L.

to me bingzo.com is a mediocre 6L.com

I think there are a few good rules of thumb for 5L that will allow you to buy the better ones:
  • Stick to 2 syllables or less when possible
  • Try to spend under $50/name (its a numbers game with 1-2% sell rate)
  • Think about whether you personally would start a company with that

I don't have many 5L, but I do have a few I think fit most of this criteria:

Kubsy//com
Zeery//com
Spraq//com
Zipno//com
Ovixa//com
Vuzos//com
Ejeqt//com
Kluda//com
Do you get offers for them?

Would not do well in the radio test, confusion is something to avoid imo, good luck
