If you sign up for an account there (free) then go to http://pcadvisor.co.uk/active24 You should be able to get a code, which will entitle you to a completely free domain with active24 (no I haven't either)

Pcadvisor is a big magazine in the uk, so should be legit.

I did the same. You need to send them a fax, or you will not get the email. Also, if you don't have fax, you need contact active 24 like I contacted, but I didn't get response yet.

I am not entirely sure- I will check and report back, i would expect this for a .co.uk registration, but not for a .com- will update as soon as i am sure.

I don't know Charley- knowing there were very limited numbers available compared to the number of people who buy the magazine, I posted the offer up as soon as I submitted mine, so as to try and help np members. I haven't yet received my login details to administer my name, but will update when I do. I saw nothing to indicate you must be british on the site. It is worth bearing in mind that .co.uk registrations ma require more details to be given and more 'admin' than say a .com, which I have submitted.

I did not wait until I had gone through the entire process before posting as I wanted as many member sodf the community to benefit as possible.

p.s. If those that have tried the offer could keep us all up to date it will be clearer for everyone, I will update as soon as I get more info.

Edit/Update:- I have now received confirmation of my domain, with login details etc, via an email from active24. I did email them asking about whether the fax was necessary, (no reply as yet), but I also faxed them anyway, so can't tell you if you need to fax them or not.
Still- a free domain in my hands!

I copied the agreement paper and putted my name for the signature place and sent it for them.

By the way, this domain host is terrible. To chande DNS you have to email them, agree papers and call. I really don't recommend this domain host for anybody. Pay money, but get quality from Namecheap or Namepros.

I have just found this too noner, very annoying- have emailed them asking why they require fax or letter confirmation just to change nameservers- utterley ridiculous!

Anyway, if you got time, but not the money, its a good way for a free domain, and I'm sure you could get around the fax thing.

i will update with their reply to my email, which basically let them know my opinion on this absurd requirement for a basic task!

I change nameservers like tens of times with my domains as I am moving a lot between my hosts. Anyway, this kind of changing of nameserver is ridiculous, as gingeman pointed. But what can we doo. We can't complain on something, that was free. But I would not definetely buy from this company a domain, even if it was just 3 $. I have learned an important lesson. Unfortunately the domain what I registered is in need for me, that I need to use it. But anyway, thank you very much Gingeman. I appreciate you, that you brought this link here, so we can get free domain.

With regard to this registrar - i am still waiting for a response to an email I sent them around 20 hours ago, and have sent them another highlighting the speed of their service with their chosen name - "active 24"! Bit of a joke as seems like they are not that 'active'.

Unfortunately, it appears they are primarily a hosting company, and are not that well structured for domainers, with all of the faxing etc that is required.

Still, its free, so like you say, its hard to really complain! :D

email is support @ active24 .co.uk (without the spaces!), fax number is on the sheet you print out if you need it.
Just an update, they did change my nameservers via email, appx timeframe one day, which is not too bad at all. Still think it should be automated, but its not too bad if you can do it via email. Overall they seem pretty professional, although not geared towards domainers heavily, they work, I have a free domain, and I thank them very much.
