I was curious to find out how the domain name prices achieved in 2007 compared to those achieved in 2006, so I had a look at the DNJournal table of sales for the Top 100 for 2006 and 2007 and with the help of my calculator discoverd the following.

Total sales 2006 for Top 100 amounted to $29,775,000
Total sales 2007 for Top 100 amounted to $42,682,500

Average price per domain 2006 was therefore $297,750
Average price per domain 2007 was therefore $426,825

This represents an increase of 43.3% over the year.

Don't know how this equates to the rest of domain names as a whole but an interesting increase to say the least. It's very difficult to find an investment that will pay 43% a year.

The number of premium domains are limited.

So the top 100 domain prices are certainly going up at fast speed.

It doesn't mean the average domain price goes up as fast as them.

Yup - I don't know how fast or slow the rest of the prices have been going up - 4 letters have been in demand apparently - but I didn't feel like finding all the domain sales and adding them all up - perhaps there is a website somewhere that has already done that anyway

Good for those big sales. But I dont think that the regular names (not 3l.com names) are going up at 43%

Yes It would be good to have more common sale averages but very interesting all the same!

This simply shows that demand is far outstripping supply. Of course this will be the case for some time to come especially with the top premium names.

The only thing that will stop this at the moment is if a burst happens again like a few years back.

Very interesting, rep is on the way.

I noticed that the number of $1,000,000+ sales rose considerably last year. 3(2006) VS 8(2007)
