40,000 Vietnamese Catholics To Visit My Town Aug. 7th

August 7th starts the annual Catholic Marian Days celebration here where we have 40,000 + Vietnamese come to Carthage for the week. Alot of locals leave town for the week due to the congestion and while we don't see alot of them on this end of town, Walmart on the other end will be wall to wall with them!

I've never attended the Festival but I know alot of them camp out on the grounds and there are alot of booths with food and such. You can usually hear the music all over town.

This and our Maple Leaf Festival (which is puny by comparison) are our two biggest festivities during the year.

Fill me in because I am completely lost.. Why would Vietnamese Catholics of all people visit some city in SW Missouri? And 40k of them at that... could you please explain??

Marian Days is a four day event organized by Vietnam Catholics from around the world in 1978 and it begins on a Thursday and wraps up on Sunday.

During the festival, about 50,000 people reunite at the Congregation of the Mother Co-Redemptrix.

That’s an order of Catholic Vietnamese priests and brothers.

The seminary is quite a big place. At Christmastime they have a drive thru display of 4 million animated Christmas lights.
