hey guys,

I'm new to buying domains

I recently bought the following, these are my first 4 purchases (i included rationale in parentheses)

premiumlasik.com (lasik is a very commonly searched term in medicine)
hiplofts.com ( hip is a term very commonly associated with lofts)
banassaultrifles.com (i don't feel strongly about guns one way or another, surprised it wasn't taken though)
bulk9mm.com (9mm is most common caliber of ammo sold)

What do you guys think? Any value to these?
BTW, i probably paid way too much for these (used google domains and paid 12 for each)

I don't see any value here. You should read more on this forum before buying

Welcome to NP.

I have no idea about how to rate these particularly but they don't seem interesting. Maybe if you can still grace delete them and get some refund? but ask around a bit more, maybe an expert here sees a market for them?

three suggestions would be
1) why pay $12 when you could get them for $8/$9
2) buy at a main stream registrar, like GD or NC where it is easier list at marketplace as well as push to another account on sell. ( I am sure G is good, but if you are domaining, GD/NC are more common )
3) $12 * 4 = $48, would have got much more domains here at NP auctions, sometimes good names go for $1 or $2, or even $0 if you keep a sharp look out. I myself have listed decent names for $0 because I could not afford to renew them, and I have flipped names bought at $0/$1/$2 for small profit, without even renewing them. ;)

Anyway, don't feel bad, all newbies makes these mistakes, I have lost lot lot lot more while learning, so $48 is a small amount in long term, maybe you will still make something of these four names. (btw, I am still losing and still learning.)

Good luck :)

how much do you think premiumlasik could be worth?

I would say stick around $2.5K

Haha I'm glad I asked. I was thinking 500 if I was lucky for premiumlasik. I emailed the NRA asking if they were interested in banassaultrifles.com before the liberals bought it. Long shot (no pun intended), but you never know :)

Do keep in mind that everything that is still available in 2015 is available for a reason. Doesn't mean you won't get lucky but selling domains is harder than people think.

Emailed about 30 lasik surgeons. Will see if I get any bites.

Oddly enough, my domain, premiumlasik.com is up for auction at godaddy.com for starting bid 350. This happened last week, I emailed them, indicating that I owned it and that I did not put it up for auction. They apologized, said one of their partner websites did it, and took it down. And now its up again....

Anyone have this happen before?

Did some research on the forums and tried to find a decent one word generic. So I bought hydrolyze.net. What do you guys think?

estibot values it at 1300 (take with a grain of salt)

awful choice, sorry.
it is not a product, it is not something somebody name their website with normally, its british and american spellings are different, etc. Even in dot com its value is not high, at .net it is waste of money.

Lasik could be a trademark. You can check at USPTO.gov. If it is, then the TM owner can take the domain from you in a UDRP (Like a court). Not likely but possible. You don't want that headache. TMs are something to avoid when buying domains.

I would agree with those who say study this market before buying. There are so many choices, most will lose you money, some will make a lot of money - and everyone is trying to find those.

Stay ahead of the masses, those who follow the herd step in a lot of sh*t.

It was probably listed by the previous owner. Somebody before you tried to sell the name but failed. That doesn't mean you will never sell it, sometimes it's just a matter of waiting long enough. But it is not likely you will succeed.

Since it's a .net it must be extremely good to have a chance of selling. Just because it is a generic doesn't mean it's good or usable. .net is almost always a second or third choice so I would raise the bar personally.

I'm a newb too. I am sure we both have bought some domains that will not do well. Frankly, I will be happy if I can sell mine for 100% profit (or more). That is still a hell of a lot better ROI than putting money into savings.
