3 Sedo questions

Hello All!

New to the forum, so apologies if I placed this in the wrong area. Well, new to serious domaining as well, so apologies in advance if these are dumb questions. :)

Have assembled a decent-sized collection of domains, many just sitting around doing nothing, so I figured, may as well start learning and get into pro domaining.

Right now, I put some of them up for Fixed Price sale on Sedo (honest.net, wordcash.com, etc.). For the most part going with the prices the Sedo system recommended. Pretty straightforward and easy enough.

But I have a few questions I couldn't find answers to (or missed) on their site, and was hoping and would truly appreciate if someone here could give me a bit of insight. The questions, I guess, are really Sedo-related.

1. Sedo doesn't have an exclusive on the listing, right? Couldn't find it on any of the descriptions and agreements, but just wanted to make sure. I do want to try selling the domains on my own if I can (contacting potential buyers directly, forums, etc.) for whatever price regardless of what's on Sedo, but just wanted to make sure I could do that while having them listed on Sedo. It doesn't make sense, after all, to have the domains just sitting around on Sedo waiting for some buyer to stumble over them.

2. Speaking of Sedo stumbling, I know about the need to categorize the domains as best I can. Since I'm a relatively new Sedo user, I decided to explore the site from point of entry to see what a potential buyer may experience. Well, it seems to these Sedo-inexperienced eyes that they really don't seem to be pushing the categories much, if anything, from the home page; immediately a visitor sees a keyword/domain name search form field. Which, imo, is of little to no help in finding my domain names for sale at all.

I figure, if that's the way it is, then what's the point of me having it on Sedo? May as well just handle it all myself and save the 15% commission.

Well, the question is, in your experience, have you found your "discoverability" (that's a term from my industry, book publishing) pretty good with Sedo, or would we all just be better off tackling things ourselves?

3. Third, and hopefully last, so I'll get out of your hair. :) Sedo keeps insisting that I should upgrade to their free SedoMLS Premium service (and I know it kicks up their commission to 20%). But in one part, they say my registrar, GoDaddy, supports it, and in another, that GD only gives limited support for SedoMLS Premium. Anyway, tried activating it, but whole bunches of confusing and conflicting messages and notices flying about. Bottom line is that it doesn't look like SedoMLS Premium is activated at all with my GoDaddy-registered domains.

So, the question is, do I really need SedoMLS Premium, or can I pretty much ignore it not being activated and whistle along as I work?

Thanks for your help and wisdom, my friends. Hope I can return the favor sometime soon...

ees (Eldon)

Welcome to the forums!

1. There is no exclusive agreement between yourself as a seller and Sedo.
2. Agreed with you...Sedo lacks a proper "directory style" domain classification and it might be quite hard for a newbie to figure out how to get to categories from the homepage. Just try to do your best and list your name in the most relevant category.
3. Don't bother with SedoMLS Premium

Hope it helps

Thanks for your helpful replies, biggie and loredan. Being new, just couldn't help but feel I was missing something. :)

Something I saw on GoDaddy I found particularly curious and certainly caught my attention was this notice:

"ATTENTION: Starting March 31, 2014, Sedo aftermarket listings will no longer display on GoDaddy.com. If you currently rely on SedoMLS to manage your domain listing and want to ensure that your services are not interrupted, please list your domains on Afternic.com."

Guess I'll have to track down some industry news to see what that's all about. Thanks again...

it's about:

gobabby bought afternic, which was a long standing aftermarket venue on it's own.

now after a year or two, they want to separate from sedo, and do their own thing.

Gotcha, biggie. A logical next move for GD. And that would explain why they didn't seem all that motivated about getting SedoMLS Premium properly integrated. :) Thanks for the info...

I got 3 offers on sedo. All came from godaddy. So that is the place for your domains. Around godaddy. Afternic.com and as I read on the forum domainnamesales.com. And probably, sedo wont let any of your domain on Great Domain auctions. As I can see what domains they let in great domain auction this month, I think that sedo is a sinking ship.
