2nd level .my anyone?

Hi,

My registrar told me that 2nd level .my landrush is coming. I quite new in domain name industry, and I never invest in cctld, as it is much expensive than gtld. (i take the advise from the NP Domain Newbie section as well )

But this .my quite attract me, with the extension "MY". Which sound better and looks like something belongs to me. (e.g. photoalbum.my, business.my ) . There are still some nice name around.

I would like to get some advise from everyone that whether i should get some .my names? Is this a good investment?

At first thought I don't find it very attractive, it really doesn't make sense having a name like "business.my"

The third levels (e.g. .com.my) were, and I believe .my is too.

It is true, but there is a way to get around this.

.My Proxy Service (local contact service) is available at http://20u.net/my

You will have all the rights to the domains. Your name will be in the Billing as well as Technical Contact column.

I have checked with my Registrar, WebNIC, Proxy service is available for .my . For Malaysia registrant like me, you will need to submit Company Registration Form D / Form 9 .

.my is something interesting...If i may comment, in my opinion, it is more valuable than .com.my. I like domain like econo.my or acade.my etc. However, I doubt if these names are still available.

Lot of potential in that extention. Not only because of the possible domain hacks, but also because of the growing economy in Malaysia. It is also a country with a lot of internet users, and lot of Malaysians abroad also browse the web constantly. When I lived in Ireland there were internet cafes with an almost solely Malaysian customer portfolio.

I think some domain hacks could be very interesting if you give away redirects sponsored with ads. But not just the hacks are interesting, the extention itself and the Malaysian economy has a lot of potential.

What do you mean exactly with those proxy services?

I've done some survey and checked around, the proxy service refers to the local contact as .my registration requires local presence. Ya, it's only restricted to Malaysian but this proxy service can help to open up the market.

This ".my" is quite interesting, personally I like the combination mentioned by S~, such as:

advertise.my/product

I personally like .my....I think it all depend how creative one can be to grab good name. I live in Malaysia, and I can say..many local people do not see the value of .my and i fear at the end of the day, the local will lost out all the good name. The restriction of needing to have local presence would not prevent others from grabbing .my.

Some insider info., Alot of good names are still available for grabs and Landrush is the best time to catch hold of these names. As it will be based on a first come, first serve basis. So do submit your 2LD .my application before the Landrush opens.
