I am not clear on what you are saying but as far as I know, when you make changes in the functions file that changes the layout of the entire site same for the color changes in the CSS. I am under the impression changes will only need to be made for two files, hopefully I am not wrong.

neither have i but i would like to do the design.... i think you should run them seperate the contests 100 for template and 100 for coding or 150 for temp and 50 for coding... if your contests falls through here PM me and i can link you to another site where you are sure to be please with the results... excelent designers there.

As far the deadline goes, it would probably be 3 days for the design and the winner would have 4 days for the coding, let me know if that would be enough.

I am still looking to see if more will enter before going ahead with things.

I may enter this contest but I have two comments/questions.

1. Do you want a 100% CSS/XHTML valid design? If so, I bet many people that have already replied will no longer be able to participate. Using CSS design, it is possible to change the entire design by simply modifying one or two files (the stylesheets). This is the only type of design/coding I do, and they go together (so I do not use photoshop to make the layout). The alternative to CSS design is using tables, and most people use photoshop to make the layout. You cannot change the design by simply modifying one or two files.

2. One an entry is submitted you will no longer be able to cancel this contest without choosing a winner. I thought I'd just like to let you know.

So you are saying that by using a css/xhtml valid design you would only have to modify those two files?

but.....

If someone makes a photoshop layout they won't be able to code it just by modifying those two files?

I suppose it is possible, although from past experience with these matters most people who make photoshop layouts end up coding them in Tables. This is simply because photoshop has a built in tool where you can "slice" it up and it will output the tables code for you.

True CSS/XHTML designers only use photoshop to create the graphics that they need to put on the site, while doing everything else strictly with the code.

And yes, by using CSS/XHTML you can control the entire site's visual looks (images, colors, layout, etc...) through one or two files (depending how you separate them). With tables, you cannot do this.

I just want to make sure that I can have more than just a few designers competing because I don't want to be stuck with something I can't use.
