Just got this via email:

$2.99 .NAME registration special ends tomorrow 5pm May 14! Yes, that's
$2.99 for each 1 year registration.

This is as good as it gets in the .name world. $2.99 for your own name
on a domain.

We are offering this one day special that ends at 5pm mountain daylight
time Friday May 14, 2004.

Thousands of great .NAME domains are still available. .NAME domains
work just like a .com and are very popular for families, businesses, or
even just for email.

Here's the scoop:

* $2.99 .NAME domains, this offer expires at 5pm Mountain time May 14
* .Name names cannot be all numbers,
* .Name names must be at least 3 characters long
* .Name names are cool names!

Lots of high-overture and one-word domains available. Happy hunting!

That explains why my great 2 character .name keeps getting borked in the reg process. Everything works except for payment confirmation.

Thanks for the clarification.

I'm seeing many of these regged but most dont make sense to me. In order for it to have any value I would think some obvious relation between the word/term and ext are needed...

example :

Domain.Name
First.Name
Last.Name
Host.Name
Register.Name
Free.Name
Nic.Name
Company.Name
etc...

There's a similar offer here on NP too, Bill.

Don't let Elijah Daniel see these anything-to-make-a-buck links just yet. They'll only discourage him. :p

As Mike knows, I generally agree with this statement, as you can see with most of my .name regs. However, if you are handy with seo, then you can't go wrong with a $2.99 keyword domain. Take for example my domain buynsell.name ; try searching for "buynsell" in google ( http://www.google.com/search?q=buynsell&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&btnG=Google+Search&meta= ) and you'll see me right there in #3. Funny thing is, I hadn't even done seo yet!

Sickning, just sickning.

$1 for a link for a domain... that is well, mean of those people.
Heh, if they are selling domains for less than domainsite, then I guess they should step in and make competition, but this is plain sickning.

True, the se's dont care what the ext. is and $2.99 aint much to invest in a nice keyword, but .name is more or less a word and has a meaning associated with it at first glance, thus I feel a well matched term/word is needed, kinda like .info .biz etc...

Hmmm

Anyone else having a problem with the reg process not completing? I find a few names, put them in the shopping cart, pay, and then receive an email stating that the "ORDER FAILED" for one or two of them. What's up with that?

yep, I had some problem with my first order, two of the names were left out from the registration and when I tried to register them in a second round it didnt work at all.
