Has anyone ever used them before? How is the management of names?

I've never used them. Just got the news. $2.95 is a HOT price, so I'm sure someone here will give 'em a try.

3 years for $8.85! Oooooh baby!

BEWARE! this was vip-ip's contribution:
'I received my domain info, registration seems to work thru opensrs admin panel, which has always been slow for me. I can't log in any of them, it says that the login / password are incorrect, and .us hadn't been registered at all, shows available, although they charged my CC for it.... wow, wouldn't have expected much from a $2.95 registrar anyways. '

Hi Folks,

Just an observation ( not directed at this particular offer, but in general.

I am often surprised by the amount of interest a special offer like this generates. If we assume you are buying a domain to develop or just harvest the PPC income then, personally, I would rather stick with my normal registrar that I know and trust ( and they know me :) ... Saves me having to worry about all sorts of things.

Also, how much value do you put on your time ?

I generally work on the basis of an average of $20 an hour, let's say using a new special offer saves me $5. That equates to 15 minutes of work. To do all the research on a registrar I have not used before ( like checking or posting on forums, reading their terms and conditions etc ) can easily eat up a lot of time. Not to mention having to log into a different site to manage names and work out their rules for transferring.

I have not done the sums to work out how many domains I would have to register there to make it worth while, but I would still prefer the peace of mind that comes from using a registrar for many years.

Just my thoughts.

All the best

Richard

I know what you mean. I've often passed up great deals on .US and .INFO registrations because I'd rather pay a bit more and keep my names @ GoDaddy. I really don't feel so bad about it, because GoDaddy's prices are generally pretty darn good anyway.

At the same time if you are a regular visitor here you probably read the posts about the different registrars anyway. If you think about it you register a $3 domain and you save $5, all you have to do is register 4 and you just made your hourly rate now depending on how many domains you normally buy it could be a lot more if you are a big buyer.

I understand 100% what you're saying, I actually thought that way before, but after a while buying domains cheap here and there I realized you really do save a lot of money going with different registrars at different times. The extra 5 minutes to register with a new site is nothing especially when you buy a lot.

I usually only go with my main trusted registrars if I'm going for a quick domain flip (or if no one else has specials), but if I'm going to develop the site I'll go with a horrible (according to everyone on here) registrar and then transfer out a few months before renewal time comes. With those savings I can buy three for the price of one and buy more with my limited budget.

You guys gotta remember we're talking about a reseller for a registrar here. A
reseller doesn't necessarily have the literal and figurative direct connections
a registrar has to register a domain name successfully for its customer.

Note this portion from their fine prints:

http://ipower.com/legal_domain.html

In this Domain Name Registration Agreement ("Agreement") "Registrant", "you" and "your" refers to the registrant of each domain name registration, "we", "us" and "our" refers to Tucows.com Co., and "Services" refers to the domain name registration services provided by us as offered through IPOWER, INC., the Registration Service Provider ("Reseller").

They're hardly any different from Yahoo on that aspect. Unless you really darn
know what you're doing, don't do it.

its not 8.85 for 3 years, in tiny print it says that 2.95 is for one year and it renews at about 8 i think it was.

That reminds me of an anecdote of when we realized my younger brother knew the difference between "cheap" and "inexpensive".. he had a pen that broke and got ink all over his hands and complained about the "cheap pen".. my mother said, "don't you mean inexpensive"? And he replied, "no it's cheap! It broke!"

Kinda like you'd expect with "cheap" domains...
