You can actually pay $5.95 (not $5.20) for .US in www.centerdomain.com site. Regarding godaddy backorder, i can only transfer the domain if successully captured by the system.

for some reason godaddy is selling cheaper than their resellers. (4.95) They are doing specials. It is rather strange but I am not sure how common it is.
