CLINTON, Iowa - An Internet service provider was awarded an $11.2 billion judgment against a Florida man for sending millions of unsolicited e-mails advertising mortgage and debt consolidation services.

The lawsuit, filed in 2003 by CIS Internet Services owner Robert Kramer III, also prompted earlier judgments against companies in Florida and Arizona worth more than $1 billion.

"This ruling sets a new standard," Kramer said in a statement. "Gross abusers of e-mail risk exposure to public ridicule as well as the economic death penalty."

Whats cool is that this ISP, which made national news, is located within 20 miles of me.

will that 11.2bn be added to the guy's will ? as in ... probably his kids might "inherit" it .... unless he has some REALLY bright kids, gonna be tough though for them to collectively earn more half of what AOL is probably worth ;) so it'll prolly end up being a multi-generation thing

I think spammers get all they deserve.

However, $11.2 billion dollars?!? Just goes to highlight what a sad state the US justice system is in. A cool (sic) million for spilling hot coffee on yourself and now this. Talk about compensation culture. Sheesh.
