Added a bonus reason: life is short. The more I revisit Netflix the more I can’t believe what a time waster this type of service is. And it is not just Netflix but any other streaming service that is popular thanks to 1 or 2 hit shows or movies.

Pretty soon you will have to subscribe to multiple streaming services to watch your favourite shows and movies. Disney, Turner, HBO, ABC, NBC, and other major media producers are launching their own competing streaming services, in addition to the existing Hulu, Sling TV, and Amazon Prime. So you will end up paying more than the old cable bill to watch your favorite programming and probably waste valuable time watching worthless movies and shows because those services have to somehow offer a variety of entertainment options, because that is more important than quality.

The old Blockbuster is looking better and better now.

Just added 4 more reasons. Is this the beginning of the end of the golden-age of movie streaming? What do you think?

I think Netflix popularity is still at the beginning. They are growing very rapidly in my country . They even started to produce their own Arabic serials with Arabic actors.

In my country , government controls the media and allows only certain serials and filters and cut lots of shots from movies

Netflix can be the window for freedom in many countries

I speak many languages so I enjoy watching German and Spanish movies with arabic subtitles

I do not like dubbed arabic movies but I like to hear and learn new languages

Netflix is great !

If you like to binge-watch you can go through their best English shows and movies very quickly. I did watch 1 Korean movie that was really good. But other English and foreign content I find a waste of time. Maybe some of it is watchable but I can live without it and not worth the monthly fee.

Just watched “How It Ends” which is a Netflix original. Has good actors and suspense. But I felt cheated at the end because the movie did not explain the main plot line. It simply just ended all of a sudden.

I find there are a lot of movies and shows on the platform with mystery/suspense that go nowhere.

Don’t have the time for that. And as I wrote in the article, https://www.dnplaybook.com/10-reasons-why-i-canceled-my-netflix-subscription/, I spent a lot of time researching movie reviews that are 90% of the time negative. And that’s time wasted even before I start to watch anything.

There is good content on Netflix like Stranger Things and House of Cards. I even enjoyed “I Am Mother”. But since the time I have been a customer it is harder to find good new content and I have to siphon through a lot a garbage. Which is frustrating and a waste of time.

Maybe in your country there is a lot of different content.

Additionally, I do think that as major media companies in the US pull their content from Netflix so they can offer it on their own new and competing streaming services, it will impact the digital streaming landscape and change it as we know it.

Never expected that Netflix would allow unfiltered media not allowed by the government in your country. What country are you in?

Egypt
Netflix allows everything but the problem is using arabic or Egyptian actors. Popular actors will fear to participate in things against government because Gov will go hunt them when they return back 😂

I pay 8 dollars monthly . And I guess this is normal even for an average Egyptian

I think that monthly subscription cost varies somewhat from country to country. As does a lot of the content. It just went up to between $9 and $16 for their 3 plan levels. It's more expensive than other streaming services but still affordable.

However, when you subscribe to other services, it adds up. I would keep the service, though, except that when I try to use it I find so many movies and shows I never heard of and often I feel like I wasted time either watching something that started well but ended terribly or was just bad and I hoped it would get better. LOL. All the best selections I have already seen, many even before they became available on Netflix.

I just find it has become too much of a time-waster and I can use that time for business or something else productive, like posting on NP, ;). Time to me is far more valuable than money. By canceling Netflix I think I will have more time and not be tempted to watch stuff I wouldn't otherwise watch and never miss in the first place.

I may come back when their selection improves significantly and also want to wait and see how other streaming services, like Disney's and Apple's and NBC's and others', will impact Netflix.

But if they have a good selection in your country and you are getting a good experience, then by all means, keep using them.
