$1 domains sourcing

Quite often, I come across the situations wherein domainer buys a domain at $1 and flips it for $10 or $15 or $20 or something like this. However, I am paying close to $10 just to register a domain at Godaddy. Are these $1 domains purchased at auctions or are there any specific platforms wherein the domains can be registered at such low prices? Please advice.

a few weeks ago you could use some godaddy coupons to purchase names for just 0.99$ , but these coupons are no longer available-active . Now there are only a few coupons for a 8$ register.

That has been discontinued - you only get 1 per account (for life) now... unless they decide to change it and bring them back...

That was the trick. Use Godaddy coupons to reg each at $0.99. Now you can't do that. So, you have to find other registrars for cheap .com registrations. This changes the game a lot. Little to no profit margin on low-end domain flips.

Thanks to all for the information provided. While registering domain names, I entered coupon codes in a cart but there was a no change in bill amount. When I called Godaddy customer care number, agent told me the coupons are always valid for high priced products (not for domain names). Perhaps, they wanted me to purchase at non-discounted prices. Else Godaddy India doesn't offer the discounts on domain names purchase. Still, I'll keep watching the thread mentioned by mitch007. I may save some money watching this thread. And every penny saved actually counts in business.
