Thanks!
I looked and looked for any TOS against creating 2 accounts, but I don't see any. Anyone else see anything about that, or can we create more than 1 account?

We've already mentioned it - here

Read that thread before buying one, especially if you use Paypal.

Dotster authorize $14.95 from your Paypal, Paypal put a hold on those funds and remove them from your account balance. Dotster then removes the $1 charge but leaves the remaining $13.95 authorized and still on hold.

In my contact with Dotster, one support guy told me he would remove the authorization on Monday, he didn't and they haven't responded to any more emails.
So the $13.95 is still authorized, missing from my account balance and it looks like I'll have to wait for the authorization to expire naturally, one month from the original authorization date.

Just a friendly warning...

Yeah I bought one as well and they charged my accoung twice. Once for $14.95 and once for $1. Just bought it about 2 hours ago. And just got an email saying they will have someone email me more info in the next 24 hours.

Complaints are coming in over here as well .

Tsk Tsk.... It reminds me of the tricks 1and1 pulled with their 5 free .info's a few months ago as well.

I just checked the last time dotster ran a similar promo. I didn't realize it, but they did hold the $13.95 for a month. Here are the details:

Original Authorization

Date Type Status Details Amount
Jul. 27, 2006 Authorization To RegisterAPI ... Details -$14.95 USD

Related Transactions
Date Type Status Details Amount
Jul. 27, 2006 Temporary Hold Placed Details -$14.95 USD
Jul. 27, 2006 Temporary Hold Removed Details $14.95 USD
Jul. 27, 2006 Express Checkout Payment Sent Completed Details -$1.00 USD
Jul. 27, 2006 Temporary Hold Placed Details -$13.95 USD
Aug. 25, 2006 Temporary Hold Removed ... $13.95 USD
Original Authorization:-$14.95 USD
Total Payment: -$1.00 USD

Now, the $1 domain is nice as long as you don't mind being without $13.95 for a month. I guess that's the tradeoff.

Just got an email from Dotster and then Paypal - "Authorisation cancelled". It only took them 15 days! :|

Ah well, at least it's finally gone and I got my 13.95 back! :)
Hi Rob,

I apologize for the delay in our response. I have voided the $13.95 difference in Paypal at this time. Please do let us know if we can be of further assistance at this time.

I guess I need to shut my mouth as well. They took less than 30 hours to refund my money. I am able to lock the domain and place it on my server as of now.

Either way it was a great deal as well as the free name from moniker I got this weekend.

2 sweet deals this weekend.

My authorization actually never got removed, and I was stuck with a big charge (not on this promotion, but another one). I'm actually considering removing Dotster from Reg-Fee.com because if you pay with Paypal you don't end up getting the savings.

I am glad I went with my CC instead of Paypal. So I hope things work out with those who went with paypal instead,
