well i think i found the anzwer to all your problems here is a site where u can download a program that changes swf to gif and is completly free http://www.radgametools.com/bnkdown.htm download Rad video tools.

for future reference, i think fireworks has the ability to do so if you already use it for graphics

hmm, I converted the .swf file but to my dismay it had INCREASED the file size! The reason I was converting it was becaus I wanted to use it for a website, but the size increased from a respectable 2.5mb to a whopping 16mb!!!

ouch!!! that has to hurt best go with the swf and maybe add a preloader?

you could also compress the file although it would lose quality

food_consult - thanks for the offer, but I think (and the peelmedicalpractice) that it is better the way it is. It loads faster, and it is only an opening page, so that people don't have to wait for ages to get to the contact details!

its quite good, but when I tried it with swf it said it couldn't read from the file or something!

It's amazing that someone would sit there and develop a program like that and then distribute it for free!

Look for a program called Magic Swf2Gif
Used it for quite a while and am happy with it

Nope, makes it way bigger
keep in mind a gif is like a slidshow, the longer it is the bigger the file it will be

I tried converting a 100kb, 5 second swf and the output was around 1.5mb as a gif

Vector graphics are naturally MUCH smaller than pixel graphics. There is no way you'll get a GIF image smaller than an SWF and retain the quality.

And if you have a GIF animation then you will have to load a different image for each frame, but in SWF, the image only has to load once and can be animated for hours without any difference in file size.
