I unfortunetly came across the Default Homepage Network again, its a TERROR, and those who have come across it as well know what I mean. Anyways, I've now got the works in my computer. Lycos side search, home page automatically changes, hijacker, program installs that I don't want, etc. etc.

Not to mention that I can't even LOG IN under my other name because this same page keeps coming up over and over and over and I can't stop it. They installed this file in my temporary files and I can't delete it because it constantly says its in use. I've ran a spy ware check and gotten rid of some things, but its still pretty bad. Does anyone know anything I can do?

Try this:

http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html

If you cant reach the site and are redirected heres a direct link (right click on it and goto save as)

http://www.aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip

Run that, it will list everything running and starting up on your system, find the program you want to stop and remove it, reboot the system. (you should then be able to delete the file)

If you know which file it is and still cant remove it, reboot the computer and go into safe mode by pressing either F4 or F8 depends on your system right after the memory check (just keep pressing), you will get a menu, choose safemode.. the delete the file from within safe mode..

If you need further help just let me know, along with you OS win98/XP etc.. the name of file/network/hijack you believe you have..

P.S i should probley mention Hijack this is not smart, it will only list everything running and starting up.. so be carfull what you delete, thoe you should be ok as the names are almost always the same as the hijacker..

Hijackthis is a great program -
I highly recommend it.

After you fix it make sure you visit the MS update page (start-windows update) and download the latest criticals.
Your just going to keep getting new things if you dont keep up to date. Even though its a pain in the butt.

Good luck.

Thanks guys. Yeah, that HijackThis is perfect, I wish I had found that a while ago!

I think most of the stuff is out. Although, i still have some of those internal pop up ads launching, still trying to get rid of those.

I was about to recommend the same thing. AdAware is a great program, and free. It finds most things like that.

There must still be part of the program on your system, or your visiting the same site that you got it from in the first place!

Run hijack this again, and see if theres anything you might have missed.. then..

Try deleting all files in your Temp & Internet Temp folders plus the hidden IE5.CONTENT folder under internet temp.. Also the theres a folder called downloaded program files inside your windows folder, have a look in there you may find it in there..

Your programfiles folder under c:\ may also have somthing, sometimes perfectnav and others hide in there..

These things are pain in the ass! If you have XP I should be able to do a remote assistance with you and check your system for you if you still have no luck

Yeah, I ran Hijack this again as soon as I logged on, thats how I knew they were back! I also ran Mcaffee and it took care of a few things. I'll make sure to go through all those things though, and keep checking up on it daily. Thanks!!
