The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
No , one of first factors to check seo competition for a keyword is allintitle count , for short head keywords
usually you will get high result more than the result for long tail keywords .

I'm no SEO specialist but would say no too. Simply for SEO having domains that map the meaning is most important I think. For I have this website selling 1-character domains as I wanted to be found good by Google I have bought 1-single-letter-domains.com (not 1 character but letter since I thought what people most spontan will write will be letter). Then I brought the terms "one", "1", "domain names" "digit" etc. into the title, the HTML meta keywords and some sentences into h1/h2 that people might often look for like "1 letter domains for sale" (Google gives you even the hints so its easy to guess what people often search).
But what sense would it do if I bought 1sld.com? SLD could mean anything f.e. a polish big political party. So short domains make only sense if people would look for it - example IBM. Im sure more people know this company name than "International Business Machines", and surely nobody looking for IBM would write the full name into a search machine (as long not really extremly bored ;) ). So if a company is called 9NF it makes sense for them to buy 9.nf domain, there is the case where one could sell - currently I try to sell 3.nf in such a case so you can contact me after a while to see if "could" would happen "would" and this really happens. But as said - I'm no SEO expert - interrested for the other replies too.

No!.....There is no matter that short domain name or long domain name. This will never effect SEO. You can choose any domain name which is better for you.

Hm, very interesting... In last time, after Google updates, domain name is not so important.
On my blogs, i'm optimizing via long tail keywords. Results are very well. Domain name is not important so much. :)

Only advantage that I can see....uses less characters on Twitter (unless you use a URL Shortener) and for me personally...way easier to type in when using Mobile!

No i don't think they are good for SEO, but they are definitely good to create a brand or be memorable to users and thus bring in more traffic. Also they are more pleasant to look at. I always get short domain names for myself.

Google wouldn't give any algorithmic advantage to domain length, primarily because short domains that are meaningful have an advantage already.

RT5Y.com has zero SEO use because nobody searches for that.
Books.com has a huge advantage, not just for [books] but also any phrase with "books" in it - if you optimize your site to those phrases.
BooksBlahWoah.com isn't as good, because Google sees that as 3 words with only one being searched for.

Another aspect is click-thru rates in the search results. If your name is short and meaningful, your CTR will be higher than a domain that is long and meaningful. That is an SEO advantage.

I doubt having a short domain name affects your ranking, but it would be more user friendly and spread more easily by word of mouth.

Name hasn't really made much of a difference in the last 6 months. We actually had a few that we're spot on keywords with great content drop. There is no linear science to ranking other than a few items that we have noticed. You want the site to load fast and be responsive. We just moved our design team over to Genesis framework on Wordpress and it's helped. This biggest item was how clean the code is, again speed of site load time and content.

No. They're not any better for SEO. It doesn't matter whether you have a long domain or short domain the search engines don't care if the domain is short or long.

Below are some advantage for choosing short domain name :

+Better for branding and adverts.
+Memorable: Short domains or often easier to remember.
+Loyal users enjoy short name since it’s quick to type.
+Easier to attract direct traffic or type-in traffic as they also call it.
+Keep their value or increase because of scarcity and high desire among domain investors to own them.

Like the branding part... Pepsi, Coke, BMW and a few others are short names (acronyms maybe) but still memorable..
