These aren't really new. I've been getting renewal emails and letters like this for over a decade.

I think most of us are intelligent enough to know that they are scams, and just toss them out.

At least this one is much more creative than the Domain Registry of America one. Sadly, some people will still get burned until they learn their lesson and start putting down which companies they use for certain services.

New people are always coming and going, so it's best to assume that it's new to the OP and try to help, even though it's old hat...

Some of these scams are so convincing, especially when one hasn't been around the business for very long.

Fake renewal notice scam is very well known scam. I was getting such messages from small hosting companies in early 2005 also.

I almost got taken with a similar scam but was alerted by Escrow.com. Very close call! It was a chain of ownership scam using multiple aliases. ie. the owner would collect funds and then request the hijacked domain be returned (and it would be) Also in this case price manipulation was in play. Not sure if this is the real owner but the reg info was:
