I started a thread about what happens after we die? and in the spirit of death and domains it made me think of another question. What happens to the domain names of dead people? I mean specifically what is the technical and legal process directly after a domain registrants death for things like ownership? Do you lose the domain name upon your death because the whois becomes invalid? Since domain names are difficult to value how would they be divided up in an estate with multiple benefactors?

Should you list your domain names in your will and say which domains go to whom so there is no ambiguity?

They usually expire and I buy them. Don't worry I'm not a monster I'll still send the family a sympathy card. Those of you that are older your welcome to make me your adopted son and will your domains to me as well. 😉

Nobody knows, every situation is different, everybody will die, that we know. When we go up or down we don't know ...

Make a will so your family or best friend can enter the domains and marketplaces and do what he or she wants to do with it.

GLTA!

I've got a block of stone engraved with all my registrars and their passwords, hidden under a wooden floor plank in my kitchen.

Told my wife, "This is where you go when I pass. All will be revealed".

Dam inconveniant though, when I have to do password change.

I've been putting up with her picky eating since 1998. Why didn't you say something sooner?
