The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
This is what is really weird about the TBR:

Dot-CA gets the top pick on the list, hitting a bulls 'eye... but used it for "outsourced.ca", which is the 11th place domain on their list, while much-higher priced, higher-demand picks like ISA.ca and Provincial.ca get the short end of the stick and have to wait until .010 and .010.

I realize there is a level of randomness to the TBR, but this one seems more than a little screwed up, as either ISA or Provincial should obviously have been the top pick on multiple servers.

Or maybe David was playing the short game, and went for the domain most likely to be picked up, and therefore pay off in terms of some revenue.

The little guys must really hate pounding away on the CIRA server hoping to get one of the top domains like ISA.ca, only to see MyID and Siber take home the gold week after week, and maybe this is a strategy that resulted from it.

I'm sure GoDaddy could invest a few million to create one, but why would they bother? :xf.laugh:

Is that how much it would cost to set up a registrar with a TBR link?

Great sale! Congratulations. I just had to Google to see what that even is. :)

I see that snacks .ca sold for $8400 in the DN Journal just released. A case of a very good plural!
SEL also sold for $4200. Perhaps all .ca should be priced in a multiple of $4200?:xf.grin:
Bob

PS Vansky and optimax that were reported earlier are also in the report, so 4 .ca over the two week period.

Nice sale... snacks.com is a Pepsi venture so they are the obvious buyer here.

And it's funny, SEL is French for "salt'. So this week's sales are salt(*y*) snacks!!! ( I know that's quite the reach, but I'm easily amused ☺️)

And yeah, 4 .CA sales in one report is definitely nice to see. Hopefully end-users see that too!

Congrats - consider reporting the sale to namebio or dnjournal. I'm guessing that was a nice hand-reg too?

No, it's probably what GoDaddy would need for the location, infrastructure, hardware, and support/tech staff needed to handle their .CA and TBR business within Canada.

Remember, it's not just the TBR portion, you need to be a fully equipped registrar as well.

Yowzah, yowzah, yowzah, it looks like ISA.ca is off to a rousing start and is already out of my price range.

I'll say this again, but there is a LOT of money flying around this week.

My guess is it’s either International Standards Association or a Muslim who loves “isa” doing the bidding.

Never had an inquiry like this, have any of you had this?

I am in the process of purchasing
a few hundred domains for future
use. What is the price for this domain?

It just seems weird that someone seems to be intent on building a portfolio of domains but just inquires about one single domain - from someone who also clearly buys & sells domains. Did he really think this was going to work out??? Maybe this is @DomainRecap 's mystery $20 bidder (although he at least offered me $500). Just weird.

Or the former owner - maybe they didn't mean to let it drop. It has a lot of entries in archive.

So I was doing some portfolio maintenance last night and finally clued in to the impact of having names listed for sale at Afternic *and* in GoDaddy auctions at the same time.

Appears the GoDaddy auction overrides any price you have set at Afternic. Which might explain the famous $20 lowballs

Example: I have a name with a $2.5k BIN at Afternic and a GoDaddy auction listing with a $20 minimum offer. And when I type that name into GoDaddy's search box, it says it's registered with a starting offer of $20.

On names with with an Afternic BIN and NO GoDaddy auction, the user would see the BIN in the GoDaddy registration path

So I'm thinking of deleting all my GoDaddy auctions for a while to see if there's any difference. Because since GoDaddy is such a mainstream company, if a non-domainer sees a Premium name with a $20 min offer then that's what they'll bid...and might not understand when we counter with a way higher number

If they see a $Xxxx+ BIN right at the start, they may understand it better

Thoughts? Has anyone had success by skipping the GoDaddy auction listings altogether?

All my GoDaddy auctions have a minimum $200 offer set. This got rid of $20 offers and most people negotiate.

Also, surprised to see Purolator.ca is still not being used, but more surprised the amount of work they had to probably do in order to get it back from the TBR and only to renew it one year.

That's a good strategy. But do you also have your names at Afternic? If so, do any of them have a BIN?

Most of my prices arent set at Afternic. I set them once I get a price request usually.

And the only reason that trick worked was because Purolator is part of a Crown corporation, so someone's gov't head called the CIRA, and they kinda broke the rules on that occasion. No way a private company gets the same treatment.

I stopped doing that and set all mine to $20, let me tell you why.

When you start to get thousands of domains the godaddy stats are a good tool. I check and if a domain received even a single $20 bid it gets renewed. It shows me interest in the domain regardless of if someone buys it or not. Additionally each offer is logged and at auction you can see how many offers a domain has had. A domain with 80 bids may attract a higher end user if he sees how many bids were made.

I simply use a gmail filter and I don't see the offers unless they are over $1000, all others file in a folder and never bother me.

Not telling you to do this but it works for me.

I agree with this, and if you are listing on multiple domain sales venues, and using the same pricing strategy for each, then you're essentially wasting your time.

Other than DAN (which is kinda useless for .CA, in my opinion) I utilize the each of the others in a different way.
