GoDaddy clarified its policy regarding the registration of coronavirus domain names as well as the resale of related domain names via GoDaddy Auctions and Afternic. In short, people can still register domain names with coronavirus or COVID in them, but resale via GoDaddy aftermarket platforms is prohibited.

Here are the details:

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I don't see the need for them to do this. :bag:

I could register virus--2020.com or c0r0nav1rus.com right now and create a scam website without restriction. I don't believe that it is stopping anything just cause they're blocking domains with the word 'coronavirus' in it from their marketplace.

It also doesn't address the specific suggestions made in the letter. There are bad actors when it comes to anything. It could be stopping people that genuinely want to make a difference in the coronavirus response from getting a decent name.

Since when did we restrict normal people from doing things just because of the bad intentions of <1% of people?

Or more plainly, "we'll profit off of it but you can not." OK. :-/
