discuss How are obscure extensions perceived around the world?

The question arose as I was researching names for a somewhat philanthropic, worldwide connect. As always, I've found handfuls of names that would work if the audience was US, Europe, or equivalent.

The problem arises when focusing countries where English language barriers are higher — and 1-2 word, 8-15 character domains are more challenging to relay. I'd like to use an extremely basic, universal 4-5 letter word without spending $30k+ on something not meant to profit from.

1) Specifically, I'm wondering what your thoughts are on using .us.com or .us.org domains worldwide. Will this cause any trust or issues understanding the URL?

Why .us.com or .us.org? Many of the random extensions are hard to notice, especially for those that aren't internet savvy. Having .us.com/org will cause instant recognition that it is a URL and they're dealing with the United States. Yay? Nay?

2) Please chime in on what extensions you see used a lot/accepted in your country. As well as extensions that your country stays away from.

1)I stay away from .us.org and such. There is a reason why a lot of names are available on those extensions.

2)In my country, my local ccTLD is mostly used, I'd say 90%. Some even use .eu and very rarely a company might use a .com. Usually an international company or a company that only takes on contracts from other parts of the world.

Appreciate the reply Drongy,

Understood and agreed. My portfolio never goes outside of .com and only own a single .net.

I've never seen the .country.com domains until an hour prior to posting this thread. It's just .us.com doesn't *seem* so bad. (For the reasons stated previously)

Wouldn't you say, working with the language barrier and having to tell friends/family, a name like gap.us.com is better than InternationalGap.com/.org?

Or would .us.com and others be OFF-PUTTING to these audiences?
