I’ve seen hundreds of ads posted by people saying they have large budgets...but then after some quick research I realize the “buyer” only became a member that day....and weeks later after speaking with other people in the thread I often find out nobody has received a response from the original poster!!!!

Are these people just hoping to receive thousands of domain name ideas and then put those names on back order lists or their own private monitoring list so that they can scoop them out from under the unknowing seller if he or she drops or accidentally forgets to renew their domain on time?

To all of you legitimate buyers, thank you! You are wonderful people! This is not meant as a slight against you one bit!

And to all people posting their wares, just be aware!

lol i think you accidentally trolled the wrong section... which is for actual buyers request...

But you have a valid concern... i often see big requests and it's mostly from people who just registered an account... I normally never reply to them personally for trust reasons....

Yep,
People definitely post buying threads to get domain ideas for sure.
I've been lucky enough to find some genuine buyers, CryptoCorp...com $16k and lots of 4L's.
But the thread is most definitely used for domain ideas, although it shouldn't be.

I agree it is mostly used for domain idea. I will say more sinister than actual buying.

I have seen buyer pricing 4L dot com for $40 and other good domains for $10

My guess is that the main reason people don't respond is that people are sending truly terrible low quality domains, not following posters request requirements, or pricing way too high for the quality of the domain.

I get a response 90% of the time... And the only reason I don't see more sales is that I price my domains based on what they're worth and typically don't do "reseller prices".

I'm sure there are some lookyloos, but mostly I think the posters are genuine with their budgets and criteria.

The two types of post that are not genuine are very rare:

1. Valuation certificate scam
2. Promoting a domain market or service

I'm sure there is a tiny percent that are looking for domain ideas, or trying to understand the market better, or perhaps even "network" to promote their domains later...

In my opinion though... Most posts are genuine, and bad eggs are rare.

I agree that there are plenty of legitimate buyers.👍🏻
I was in no way trying to slam the whole thread.

I’ve just noticed, and wanted to make a point that often when I’ve seen someone offering a big budget for certain domain genres that more often than not they’ve only signed up in the last day or week or something. Sometimes there are 20 or 30 people who have replied to an “ad” with nary a response. Just seems fishy to me!

I would suggest before emailing off your best names to some random stranger, check their profile and see how long they’ve been a member and see how many sales (if any) they have completed. Obviously a new member with no completed sales does not mean that they are a scammer either.... but, best to get some dialogue going in that situation before firing off your “bestie’s” in my opinion!

Theory:

Big domainers have a "main" account with all the ratings. But want to fish for lower prices with a "fresh" account.

If you saw someone with 300 transactions you might give them an inflated price.

That's my theory any how. :)
