While the domain MAGATrending(.)com is available too buy, I'm more than just a little curious as to why some pretty good domains like those using the four letter term "mega" aren't a real hot item. Take for example MegaFans.com recently sold for $3,400 and MagaFans was available to hand register....go figure. Then you have MegaDeal that just sold for $9,500 while MAGASale was available.

My point is "Make America Great Again" and it's acronym "MAGA" are a pretty big deal no matter how you cut it. Anyone have any experience with political slogans or anything like it?

It's been my experience that rabid fans buy almost anything to support their team...i wonder if they may be interested in MAGAdomains ? Inquiring minds would luv to know:xf.rolleyes:

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I think the issue here is that MAGA is a brand in itself, and has a very defined and limited use (i.e. showing support for Donald Trump and his campaign/policies). While everyone in the U.S. (and many outside of it) know the acronym, attempting to brand yourself with it would only serve to detract from your own brand... your name would essentially be telling the world that your product/service is all about political support of the current POTUS.

Since "Mega" just means really big, you can add it to a variety of nouns and adjectives to create a new and memorable brand that people can relate to. It's short, meaningful, positive, and people identify with it in a non-specific way. So you can mold it to the needs of your brand.

Would Trump supporters find value in MAGA domains? Maybe... I guess the question is, how many people are so devoted to being political activists that they would be willing to spend thousands on domain names just to create their own online presence? More likely they would just donate to the campaign. In which case, at the end of the day, you only have one really good end user of a MAGA domain: The Donald himself.

One letter of difference.... but worlds apart. :)

Additionally... Are there trademark issues with attempting to use the term? If I create a MAGAsale site, selling all MAGA products, I'd be more than a little worried about getting slapped with some legal action.

I don't consider political names that I see fraught with problems and having a very short shelf life and unless the perfect name with little upside economic possibility.

Also, I don't understand US politics at all. Does anyone? :xf.cool: When Ronald Reagan used the expression Make America Great Again in the 1980 campaign it came across as a positive message that even most detractors did not take exception to. Now the situation is very different.

Re MAGAtrending I would see it has the same issue that many two word domains have regarding resale value. There are many other ending or beginning words that could more or less equally portray the same meaning, so the lack of uniqueness means little resale prospects.

I am glad to see you posting again, @TheNmeGuy and it was so great to meet up with you at NamesCon!

ps Your thread caused me to look at what MAGA was available in in the new extensions. I was surprised that MAGA.fan appears to be available as a hand registration, although that is not a cheap extension. As of this instant, the .solutions new gTLD is also available and at not that much money if one shops around. I could see the campaign actually making use of that if they were into new extensions.

Mega and MAGA are a world apart. Mega is always going to be a good branding term.

Hi

everybody is not down with the maga motto

it prolly would be great, if it was enacted with good intentions for ALL americans

but the polarizing comments and tweets, get associated with the term,
which in turn, gives negative connotations to those, whom the rhetoric is intended to exclude or discriminate against.

living life off the wall only made Michael great

:)

imo...

Joe...i don't disagree with much of what you just said. I consider myself an independent rather than non political. Non political, according to the definiton, means you're not influenced by or concerned with political considerations or issues. I care, but for business and personal reasons I don't choose to align myself with either liberals or conservatives, or democrats or republicans.

As far as there being any trademark issues with MAGA, there might be if I owned just MAGA.com? At least here in the states if you're to go to USPTO and research the 91 different names that have the four letters "maga" in there name, you'll see why I don't believe there's a problem with owning names like MAGAFans, MAGASale, MAGACredit, MAGAPizza, MAGABuilders or MAGA.homes

I didn't vote for Trump, but if I had it to do over again I probably would. The thing I do know is that his fans are many considering over 61,000 Million people voted for him. I don't know how many of his fans are builders, restaurant owners or entrepreneurs, but I can assure you it's a lot:xf.wink:

I've been saying all along, the risk vs.reward factor owning names like these is far too great not to invest, even if "the Donald himself" were the only potential buyer. Make sense?

Thanks Bob, and it was great to meet you too. Politics is nasty business, sort of like the domain business...no actually it's worse. I just registered a name this morning that just became available after almost 20 years, DomainEthics(.)com...i'll share with you later why.

btw, I'm keenly aware that "Trump Haters", of which I use to be one, wouldn't be interested in MAGA domains. That's sort of like offering women's fashion to men, and vice versa. Half your target population simply don't and won't have an interest.

The only new gTLD I own with "MAGA" is MAGA.homes. That's because MAGAHomes.com was taken.Regardless, i think i like MAGA.homes better even though it may be harder to sell. But for 10 bucks, I just saw it as a good deal.

That's all Bob, other than I met another great Canadian domainer from Ontario. He's been around this industry for about 20 years. If I keep meeting great Canadians like this, I'll need to get a duel citizenship...that's if Canada will have me:xf.wink:

Flash in the pan subjects, such as this, have a limited shelf life, are already a dated term, and often a waste of money. Those reg'n these names will soon have something in common with the Yes We Can crowd, and Covfefe fans...imo.

Trump should be reelected, so MAGA will be going strong for another 5 years at least. MAGA.homes, that is a nice pick. Good luck.
