eBay?

I noticed that domains are sold on eBay; however, in the 4 or so months I’ve been on my favorite guilty pleasure, NamePros, I don’t think I’ve seen eBay mentioned once.

I’m going to guess this fact is a case of “No news is bad news.” But I’m sure some savvy NP members can tell me the major pros/cons of domain name selling on eBay.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I have tried it once, there is amount of domains offered here in Germany on eBay. However, according to German/EU rules I have to allow a 14days return policy for end user on a sold subject thru online channel. This happened to me, also I don't feel like domainers are serious about doing business on eBay. However, it doesn't take any fees to list on eBay starting at 1usd so why not doing this, too; at least to get some visibility. The only downside for me is that I have to park the domain and disable selling on other channels while that domain is listed on eBay as I am bound to it.

Thanks for the quick and informative reply. Seems a better deal than l figured it would be.

you can buy incredibly bad domains at eBay

selling below value would be possible at eBay too

if you are after bargains - that's ebay,
i sold potential drops in the past and would recommend this marketplace. most for under £100, just one of my deals (years and years ago) was higher than £250 (and this domain was dropped by new owner within just a two year time)...
p.s. it's not limited to eu, by the way, plenty of u.s. based sellers do use it.

In general at eBay anything you sell is going to sell at rock bottom prices but most anything you list with no reserve no matter what it is will sell. eBay is where cheapskates look to buy cheap and who will complain mightily about shipping charges or sales tax even if they underpaid for whatever they bought.

Good stuff is that eBay does give up to a hundred free listings per month. This is also advisable to list on eBay com as well as on some of its 'national' platforms (like eBay co.uk) - it gives extra free listings + other promotions, etc.

Free for listing (which is pennies per a listing anyway, even if not free) but between either PayPal or eBay Managed Payments plus eBay Auction fees (10% for most categories), you end up paying around 13% if sells.

Also if you want a reserve in place listing is not free.

The best things to sell on eBay are non-unique items, something that has a universal value and a lot of potential buyers. Such items will sell for whatever the market will bear.

Another issue with selling non-tangible items on eBay is that you are unable to enter a shipping tracking number, since obviously there is none. In the event of a buyer dispute the eBay system will mindlessly keep asking you for proof of delivery and when you cannot provide it eBay may just rule against you until you can provide some other kind of proof.

True, @xynames but sometimes it is maybe worth a listing, just to attract interest and advertise your domains. I would probably list more domains in the description for external negotiation 😏 btw, one can unlist anytime unless someone has put a bid. However, I am still very sceptical with domains listed on eBay.

After reading all your interesting and informative replies, I thought l would list some names. And when l discovered, much to my surprise, that eBay lists adult names, l listed four seXXXy Asian domain names.

Ironically, about 15 minutes, l received a polite note from AfterniX, telling me it had dismissed about a dozen of my names, as they are Adult-themed.

As far as l know—-and I still have a lot to learn—virtually all of the major domain purveyors list adult domain names—save one.

Oh well, when in Rome.....

eBay has a lot of fraudulent related issues. People will do anything to keep the domain and get a refund.

They pay you via PayPal, wait for domain transfer, then file a complaint to get refund and you lose money and domain. Not the safest place to sell unless you only sell trash and don't worry about losing a couple dollhairs.

How do I know? Happened to me. I fought back and ended up getting my domain back.

good luck to you either way :)

Thank you, sir. I remember back when eBay was the unrivaled leader in online selling—then along came Mr. Bezos and Amazon.

Of course, eBay still does well, l’m sure—and l’m quite-surprised it lets such shenanigans occur. I don’t know that much about financial matters, but it seems that eBay should be able to put a stop to obvious highway robbery!

I just listed a domain on eBay to try it out. Haven't sold a domain on there in years, but what the heck. Its been so long since I used eBay, I had to open a new account; my old one had an old phone number and email address, so I started over. I listed WirelessHats dot com for opening bid of 99 cents, no reserve.
