sales Breaking: Verizon Buys Oath.com

Spaceship Spaceship
Recently, Verizon announced the news of a brand new company, Oath, which will be created by merging Yahoo! and AOL. This comes on the back of Verizon's agreement to purchase Yahoo! for $4.5 billion.

The news, which was originally broken by Business Insider, has received global media attention. However, the reaction to the new "Oath" name has been mixed, with The Telegraph calling it one of the worst rebrandings in corporate history.

After the announcement, many domain industry blogs pointed out that Oath.com wasn't owned by Verizon. Jamie Zoch (@Yofie) of DotWeekly pointed out that AOL had secured hundreds of domains related to Oath, but hadn't bought Oath.com. This has now changed.

It looks as though Verizon has just acquired Oath.com from the World.com domain portfolio using the services of The Treadstone Group. The World.com portfolio is one of the best in existence, boasting names such as Revenue.com, Doctor.com and USA.com.

The Treadstone Group, which Verizon looks to have employed to acquire this name, is a global IP acquisitions company that has been a part of many corporate domain acquisitions in the past.

Thanks to George Kirikos (@GeorgeK) for the tip.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
On one hand, Verizon purchased Oath.com, as in taking an 'oath' to protect user information from hackers.

Oath refers to 'solemn appeal to a deity, or to some revered person or thing, to witness one's determination to speak the truth, to keep a promise, etc.: to testify upon oath.'

Yahoo was the biggest known data breach in U.S. history. The name is fitting. What generation is less religious than millennials? Who worships smartphones and social media more than millennials? Don't many musicians and artists use religious terms and are the false idols these consumers worship?

Also, Verizon is saying we are a revered digital deity worshiped by our consumers, and they are correct.

More importantly, how much did this domain sale for; we may never know...

The only remotely relevant thing I can think of with this name is Aol /Yahoo take an "Oath" to curb the spreading of Fake News

Lol this is a very weird re branding that's for sure.

"Oath" seems highly outdated.

like saying "Fornicate" instead of F*ck

oath is not bad.

Four letters, great pronounceable brand with positive meaning.

It gives a theme to the company for interacting with customers.

Oath of great service, always.

It adds sense of responsibility to employees. They are under oath to make customers happy.

Just remembered, I bought about a year ago OLTH dotcom, because I liked how it sounded, in addition to being all prem letters )

Nice, OL can stand for On Line.

Maybe they just wanted an excuse to buy another premium domain name:) let's see what happens, ...remember Alphabet.
