Actually, there is no point in creating a new account at 1&1 to push the domain to. FYI, 1&1 treats a domain push same as a domain transfer, charging for 1 year renewal :banghead:

Better to provide the buyer with respective Auth-Code and let them transfer-out to their favorite registrar. Say bye bye to 1&1 as fast as possible!

Transfer the domain to your account at the registrar where buyer would like to have the domain and then do internal transfer. You have nothing to lose (you get extension for a year).

Hmm... why such a roundabout way, where the seller has to pay for the transfer/renewal? (n)

Internal transfer is the most secure way of transferring the name. Would not mind spending $10 for extension considering the amount of transaction. Also it gives confidence to buyer as they are getting the domain (hand delivered) at the registrar of their choice.

If you're concerned with security, best to use escrow with a concierge service built in, like Sedo's.

I really don't understand why noobs fall for this 1and1 spiel every time. I guess there are more fools born every minute. the best advice you have had, IMHO, is from @Lysted.

But don't forget to cancel your hosting after you've transferred the domain, as they will charge you again for renewal of hosting services.

If the domain isn't 60 days old yet, you should just tell the buyer they have to wait out the balance of the sixty days, and you will transfer the domain to their registrar of choice. I wouldn't force anybody to use 1and1 as their registrar, in 1000 lifetimes.

I haven't seen a worse control panel, which most of the time doesn't work. Nameserver changes can take a week. If you buy a domain it can take 5-7 days for them to process it into your account. Then you have to deal with the hosting, if you transfer the domain out. Awful. Really, really, AWFUL.

Question: Is it smart to buy domains at 1and1 for $1?
Answer: NO!
Why: Because you will spend more time sorting all the problems out, and waiting for things to happen. Time is money. Even if you have the time and little money. I would prefer to pay $8+ at a decent Registrar, and not have these problems. Of course there are a few people who have got 1and1's system worked out. But for any beginner, it's a nightmare waiting to happen.
Advice: Everyone (especially noobs) should stay away from 1and1.

i think you should go for it and take that account as it will help in your sale. Moreover that will be further beneficial for you too
