Virtual Reality Domains (VR)

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
Im betting big bucks on VR domains have a great future and with the big boys buying up VR companies, mainstream is a stones throw away.....

Lots of VR+keyword.com taken years ago and I noticed this sale a week or so back -

VRTechnology.com $3688

This was a steel and I can soon see everything from VRPoker / VRCasinos / VRShopping / VRBrowsing / VRTours / VRWorlds / etc etc....having a high price tag even now at the start of VR hitting mainstream...

I have just paid $x,xxx for a name but will not be showcasing as the domain is in escrow at present....

Feel free to showcase your VR domains If you like...

Cheers

Isn't FaceBook VR and Occulus Kind of Boring?

I feel like there's something really boring about Facebook VR division to be honest. They're just not exciting to me yet. There's nothing SEXY about FBVR.

They need to beef up their branding and marketing and product line if they want to be the leader of the VR market. There's no hype factor....just take it or leave it attitude, which doesn't work for every company...and certainly not working for FB right now.

And while HTC's Vive has the best hardware, they have virtually made no impression to consumers with marketing. Most of their publicity has been from word of mouth....but both of these headsets don't have an attractive platform / marketplace comparable to Google's upcoming Daydream. They never debuted anything nicely packaged in the way that Google did Daydream.

Eventually Vive will be forced to adapt Daydream if they want to be takens seriously and not be left out of the action.

Facebook should throw in their towel if they're not going to work on public perception. They've been pushing their VR like Bill Gates is running their company. They're becoming the Microsoft of VR....Functionally boring and dull....

It's like FB is stuck in a forever beta mode, not knowing really what to do to grasp the market....

The market moves FAST and it will not wait for you to sit around doing interviews talking about VR without having any meaningful platform announcements...

Another problem with FB and HTC Vive is that they're trying to push a medium without pushing the reasons for the medium yet. It's like, "hey I have this great new product, but the reasons why you should have it are on the way! just buy the product and stay posted ok?"

This is not how commerce works. This is not how consumers buy....well satisfied consumers anyway.

Google is pushing their medium as a product to developers - "you make the games and we'll promote them for free on our already popular OS". That's the game changer.....which is what PSVR will be doing...

Releasing a mobile market place on Android should have been the first thing FB did for Samsung Gear, but they of course couldn't do that because it would be promoting Android products over Oculus. Especially since they'll never put Android on Oculus...

Picked up VRolePlay.com the other day. Obviously word hacks for domains are risky but this is one of the most obvious and I've already seen it in use. I think if it was somebody here who let it drop you blundered :)

I believe there were some relatively recent "VIRT"+KEYWORD sales on Namebio.

I am aware VR is the official Keyword for Virtual Reality but there are some of VIR Domains, that are registered 15-20 years ago, the Top Keyword & there are 3-4 Startups who have used VIR already that i have seen in recent news.

So on the Temptation of it, I have regged the below Domains. As these are some big keywords:

VirCafe.com
VirCompany.com
VirComputer.com
VirHeadset.com
VirHeadsets.com
VirInternet.com
VirMedical.com
VirPlatform.com
VirPlayer.com
VirPoker.com
VirProjection.com
VirProjector.com
VirRobot.com
VirRoom.com
VirSimulator.com
VirSystem.com
VirViewer.com
VirWearable.com

Also Strangely some Key V & VR Domains were not registered yet:

ProjectorsVR.com
VProjection.com
VProjectors.com

While the talk in this article suggests Apple VR in the next iPhone, I am leaning on a few things about the next device.

ONE - it will not be limited to VR but a VR/AR/MR device and

TWO - it is likely to have a 3D camera system built in that dubs as a 3D scanner with software to map a room in/for AR & VR applications and

THREE - The platform for VR 'MAY' not launch at the same time as the phone.

http://www.ibtimes.com.au/apple-vr-iphone-7-iphone-7-plus-release-date-speculated-september-1516706

I think it is likely that they will want to test the 3D cam/mapping systems in a release before they launch the platform for VR/AR but we shall see.

Just my best tech guess.

Yes, i looked it up as well. It fits apple strategy to be innovative.

Do you still consider VIRTUALISRAELity (dotcom) as a crap?

Israeli VR startups are growing and growing as mushrooms. It can be a name for one of them.

You've inspired me to register VRIDF.com

I sold VirtuFun dot com two weeks ago on GD premium for $95, on the first day of expiration, maybe for someone here. So yeah, there can be some potential.

@Hugo_Strange

I see PolygonVR dot com in your sig. That's one pretty name you've got there! Hope you don't settle for less than what it's worth, because it's got huge potential IMO

Thanks mate!

It's definitely one of my favourites in my VR portfolio and like you said I'm just waiting on the right offer before I sell it :)

While I do not want to make a big BooHaHa about it, someone needs to make this point so I will only say it once and never speak of it again on "this word" anyway. This is more for the NEWBs

For those of you reg'ing DayDream names, especially after the date of the listed TradeMark.
While for the most part, you are fairly safe in doing so, but you have a problem you are not thinking of.
And this does not apply to all the names, but likely, most of them.

If you are looking to make some hefty money from them, it is unlikely for the following reasons.

Brand Identity. - Nobody wants to confuse their brand with someone else's. Those that do are the ones that give us domainers a bad name and normally loose a case against them.

While there is value in leaking traffic, the end user must tip-toe through the hoops to not be confusingly similar in any way to the TM listing of 'goods and services'. In this case, it almost counts them out for VR except in some 'fair use' cases.

While you think demand will likely go up for the name, it actually has fewer uses to the "real end-users" that pay the bucks for a good name they can use for 'VR'.

The only demand going up is from those other investors that do not know any better.
And for a few that engage in this, most are only interested in the quick flip to one of them.

So the short is that while the name "MAY" not get you in trouble by reg'ing and holding, it will have very real limited use in fact lower than a name with no TM confusion. And that drives the valuation down.
What good is a VR name if it can not be used openly without limitation for VR.

In saying that, there are plenty of "FAIR USE" scenarios. STUDY and look for those if you are buying or look for those that were reg'd before the TM for a value.

Hopefully, everyone understands what I'm saying 'cause I'm not repeating myself on it.

Good points @VRdommy . And just to echo your point about fair usage:

A good example of a fair use scenario would be AndroidCentral.com, which has been around for at least 4 - 5 years. It's a site ABOUT Android products - reviews, tutorials, news reports, etc. It's not selling Android products or competing with Android with a similar brand.

So VRBrandNameNews.com is OK. VRBrandNameApps.com is RISKY if you're not a news, review or tutorial site! Typo of VRBrandName.com is NOT OK. VRBrandNameOS.com is NOT OK. VRBrandNamePlatform is NOT OK. BuyVRBrandName.com is NOT OK! VRBrandNamer.com is RISKY. Rearranged words of VRBrandName.com like BrandVRName.com is Risky...and so on.

But even if your domain is obviously a fair use type name, you still have the risk of that brand coming after you even when they don't have legal grounds for doing so. You have to consider if you even want to bother with that kind of mess when regging a name with a TM. Google is more infamous for going after typo domains, but there are a few Android ´+ keyword domains that haven't been hit for years, probably because they're fair use.

I have DayDreamReviews dot com and would drop it like a hot potato without a fight if Google contacted me, even though it's a fair use type domain.

P.S. Isn't the DayDream trademark "DayDream VR"? If that is in fact Google's trademark regging "DayDream ´+ keyword" may be fine, but I'm not a lawyer....Be a big boy and do your own research before following anyone's advice on this forum.

This is the one Id be most concerned about: http://tmsearch.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f=doc&state=4808:1w659k.2.2
Just "daydream" by itself for what seems to be any VR use in my opinion. Not sure if that link will work btw.

Jurors could visit crime scenes in VR in the future

BBC-796x398.png

Researchers at Staffordshire University in the UK are working on a way for jurors to get a whole lot more insight into the alleged crimes that they are asked to rule on, according to a report from the BBC.
