Hi everyone! The 3D market appears to be exploding! Record takes at the box office by movies such as Avatar and Alice in Wonderland and the announcement this week of the new 3D TV which is set to hit markets shortly have helped buoy interest in 3D multimedia platforms. Even the major American television network NBC has jumped in and will be broadcasting the NCAA Final Four basketball games in 3D!

A direct beneficiary from this renewed interest and greatly improved 3D technology is the domain business. Some of you had foresight many years ago and reg'd great names early on. Others (myself included) have only become aquainted with 3D domaining more recently, but see the huge potential this market has opened up for domainers.

Let this be the place for you to show off your 3D domain names. Ask for opinions, marketing strategies or even an appraisal or guesstimation of value. Also, feel free to post any relevant news releases/articles related to the 3D industry.

I will start the thread off with a few of my own reg's..

3DHighDefinitionTV.com (also have plural)
3DHomeEntertainment.co.uk
3DHometheaters.org
3DStreamingMovie.com
3DVancouver.com
3DWhistler.com

Saucey. ;)

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Some of my other 3D names are linked to known companies who at the time I bought them had no interest in 3D whatsoever (cause it didn't exist) and no content or any intention of having anything to do with the medium.

One sent me several cease and desist's demanding I handed the names back at cost.
[/I]

Good luck with this. And good luck to others who still keep regging 3dbluray, 3dnitentods, 3ddsconsole and similar types of names.

It comes as no surprise to me that people can not sell their 3d domains. The seasoned experts already posted here and said as much. 99% of the domains posted here will not sell. Why people continue to register them is beyond me. This thread has been a big hype and has lots of people buying worthless domains. I wish you all the best though. Why not try another niche? The good 3d domains were registered long ago.

Your words...

"I have been accused of missing the "3d boat" so I went snooping and seen the British spelling for adapter=adaptor was available so I registered it. It is general and broad based so I do not think its all that bad."

OF COURSE it's all speculation. That's the fun of it! The simple reason that people are continuing to register them is that NO-ONE knows whether they'll be worth anything or not. To say that people are buying worthless domains is quite frankly nonsense...how do you know that? You don't!

You can make an informed guess but ultimately who could've predicted that Amazon,MoneySupermarket,Ebay,Yahoo,Google,Insure etc etc etc etc etc etc etc would be worth a fortune. No-one!

If you can afford it, feel it's worth the punt...BUY IT!

If you can't afford it...DON'T!

Simple.:kickass:

Or another hobby...

Seriously, sticking 3D in front of multiple keywords in lesser extensions makes for reg fee domains and I'm being nice... people are getting carried away.

...Some of my other 3D names are linked to known companies who at the time I bought them had no interest in 3D whatsoever (cause it didn't exist) and no content or any intention of having anything to do with the medium.

At the time I bought these names I envisioned them being used for tribute sites and so I set about collecting and collating copyright free, public domain 3D material of my own, as I felt this was a legitimate and unique use for the names...

I say this because just lately I have received 3 letters from 3 different individuals.

...One sent me several cease and desist's demanding I handed the names back at cost.

One was nicer but wanted the same thing, however, they, were willing to make an offer that was reasonable, just for the names.

When you say, "Some of my other 3D names are linked to known companies...", are you saying that you used the names or brand names of specific companies?

If so, then you are open to a heap of legal problems. Use NP's "Search" function (at the top of the page) for terms such as "trademark", "infringement", etc. for a bit of insight as to the problem.

If this is what you did, consider yourself lucky if they just allow you transfer the domains to them and let you off the hook without taking any legal action. If they are nice enough to compensate you for the registration costs then you can feel doubly-blessed.

I think you are missing the point. Domains that are bad today will still be bad domains ten years later. There are few exceptions.
In domaining it's about supply vs demand. There is demand for quality, but little for crap. Quality is rare and desired, crap is cheap and abundant. Domainers are only building up the supply.
For each domain posted here you could find dozens of unregistered alternatives of similar quality  So yeah good luck selling to end users.

And it is not that good. I registered one that has some relevance. Not hundreds like some members here. I also have a website built for it. I still say the good registrations were taken long ago.

Someone with free time, should go back on this thread and list the TOP 10 3D Domains posted on this showcase/thread

Would be interesting to see if any new regs make it in the Top 10.

Yes AND no! You are missing the point AND contradicting yourself. How is it that you are so sure that the domains that you have bought are not crap? With all due respect i would put my 3DFights up against your 3DAdaptors (ers??) any day. You took a calculated risk, you believe in what you've bought, you've put a 3D in front of a word ( that you consider valuable) with no other affirmation of its worth other than your own estimation. Errr...HELLO! ...that's precisely what everyone else is doing. Are you 3D Yoda? Who knows...we may ALL be wrong...I for one accept the gamble..and i believe 99% of the rest of the fellas here accept it too. Of course there's little demand for crap...i personally ( no disrespect).. think that 3DAdaptors is close to crap. There are plenty of MY 250 domains that i think ARE crap. But ...do you know what...i paid my moneys...i took the chance...i got no-one else to blame but myself!

BUT...and here's the thing...if just one domain hits...and hits big...then :bingo:

what does it mean?

It can be an acronym for anything you want, the shorter the better, as D-K showed, people like the short 3DLL or LL3D names, they will only become more popular, there are none left like this, except the horrible 3DQX or ZX3D etc...I dont think you can go wrong for $5

kw3d.com $150
lb3d.com $125

I think its no surprise that some are not selling because its only just becoming mainstream, thats all....when you see 3D .INFO names selling for x,xxx, that is surely a good sign, we will have to wait and see wont we.....

Appreciate your comments GlobeGenius..
