Yahoo! Buys (steals) OMG.COM for $80k

seems expensive for 80k!

it is a very common acronym with huge social networking implications. yahoo has omg! Celebrity gossip, news, photos, babies, couples, hotties, and more - omg! on Yahoo! since 2008 according to the OMG - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia & OMG - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia!

I think that's a really good and inexpensive buy for them.

I to think this is a good buy on Yahoos part. I'm sure we'll see something big on this domain soon enough.

Agreed that Yahoo! got it at a good price but in these times, who else would pay $80k for this domain so easily?

This is probably THE most common used acronym, not on the internet probably but IRL. People often even spell out the acronym instead of saying the phrase and this is a trend that is increasing rather than decreasing.

IMO this domain can only get more popular, yahoo has got a great domain for an incredible price! If used as intended for celeb gossip I think it is the best use for it. How long till the magazine?

This was a business purchase - nothing (directly) to do with omg being a popular acronym. Apparently they're going to spin their very popular OMG subdirectlry off as a brand of it's own. Similar to when CNN acquired "ireport" to give their user-submitted news section it's own domain.

Good move, Yahoo!

I think lol is used more and often imo/imho.

omg is huge though and 80k is an amazing deal. Easily worth double that.

who uses lol IRL (In Real Life)? You would never really pronounce that acronym outloud, where as O-M-G you can.

It really bugs me but some are actually saying lol on accident when they thing something is funny, or on purpose, who knows, but it bugs me when someone does...
