Hyphenated .com vs. Standard .net?

Hey everyone. :) I'm going to start a blog in a certain niche, and I'm trying to decide what domain would be best to use for the blog. In a nutshell, this is my issue: The .com name I want is taken, and I don't want to reword anything or add/minus words for SEO reasons. Without revealing...

I want to buy a .com, but the .net is in use

If they had the .com and you were thinking about the .net, I would advise looking elsewhere. In your situation, however, everything looks really good (lol). If you feel like you aren't violating any trademarks, then hop on it.

What is the current status on Reem Island development? Apparently, the official website was hacked. :( Edit: From information I was able to find, it was said to be completed in 2008. Does anyone have any experiences to share? Or has anyone sold any Reem-related names yet?

Thoughts on shortening domain names

Let's take a Cloud Computing business for example. Would cloudcomp.ext (any given extension) be just as good (or close to) as cloudcomputing.ext because it's shorter, or would it decrease/kill its value because "comp" could mean anything? Thoughts, opinions please. :)

DNName or DomainName?

DNName doesn't really make sense, because that's like saying "DomainNameName." DomainName sounds good, although you might have trouble finding it available. DNBlog also sounds really good, and it's short which is a plus. I would use DNBlog for the main site, and I would also purchase...

If you try to sell it to them, it could certainly come across that way. But if it's coincidentally a generic word and you use it for your own personal reasons, that should be more than fine, IMO.
