I think it very much depends on what you mean by "blackhat". There's no doubt that some activities of this nature are clearly illegal, because they are basically attempts to defraud others

Good Niche?

I would say that "wine" in itself is not a niche. Maybe you could do some research into areas like: "Italian wines", "Chianti wines", "wines with food"...look for more specific areas where there will be less competition.

I need help and ideas.

I'd suggest that you concentrate on a subject that you like and know a bit about. Write a website on that and make sure that you create lots of unique content. Traffic and income will follow.

Yahoo

Obviously Yahoo does have a fraction of the traffic of Google in most parts of the world, but there is still traffic there. I generally find that getting good rankings in Yahoo involves many of the same factors as with Google: content, inbound links, on-page SEO.

I've got to say that I don't really like the idea of buying signature links, but I guess that it can certainly be effective and some forums allow it.

Advertising a website on TV???

There are certainly plenty of examples of great advertising campaigns for websites on TV (comparethemarket.com have been particularly successful). The problem is that he'll need a very large budget I would think.

When all's said and done, I think the key here is to buy domains that will have a high resale value. Failing that, I guess you'd be looking at selling on a fully developed site?

These figures will vary massively depending upon the sectors in which we are all operating. I have a personal finance site, for instance, that receives high values but this would be out of the ordinary.

I should probably already know this, but here goes...

It's probably down to how often Google is spidering your sites. It's probably visiting one site much more frequently than the other. Out of interest, do you have RSS feeds set up? These can encourage Google to visit more frequently.
