In a sense, yes, but once you have a relatively high traffic, the number of disk operations may become the more important problem, and a dedicated Mysql server (in close proximity and very well connected to the web server) may make more sense.

That situation may have something to do with your requirements. Shared hosting, even if generous on the surface, is typically not meant to host busy sites. With the exception of websites that distribute relatively large files, at 1-2TB of usage, you'll be placing a serious load on the server...

Leaving aside Dreamhost's $50 setup fee if you want to pay monthly, there's nothing wrong with their pricing. They're operating in the budget hosting market, and they don't do anything that the other big guys playing that game aren't (see Godaddy, Yahoo etc). $10/month for hosting is decent...

About as far as you're willing to pay, usually. If the host has a good reputation, you can generally expect to get your $5-$10 worth of hosting, and possibly a lot more if your content is static in nature. Speaking of static, it's a good idea to use the supercache plugin with your Wordpress...

One might say they cannot be much more dishonest than offering shared hosting with the specifications of a dedicated server for a tenth of the price. :) Really, much of the budget hosting market it essentially selling unlimited hosting.

Basic Web Hosting Recommendation

I have an account with Hostmonster, which is essentially Bluehost's twin, and two with Hostgator. I also have one with Netfirms, and it is indeed slow. Netfirms is about 2 times slower than Hostmonster, and Hostmonster about 2 times slower than Hostgator, at least from my tests there...

bluehost.com vs hostgator.com vs putdomain.com vs justhost.com

Reseller hosting? Bluehost and Justhost just don't offer such. Leaving that aside, how can you explain, that the domain in your signature, agenwebhosting.com, has the same owner as putdomain.com? If you ask me, this is just an attempt to spamvertise that particular company.

Contact them and ask for alternative methods of payment. AFAIK they mean business with debt collection, it's not just empty threats. Eventually, if not middle ground is found, even though it is a real hassle, you could get yourself a debit card and pay.
