discuss What I learned in the last week about domainers

What a week. As many of you know I had a huge sale this month to a celebrity. I did an article with @Domain Shane The entire article was a "how to" on how I made a huge sale and how you can do the same.
Here is what I learned.
  • Domainers are jealous petty people.
  • Keyboard tough people like to DM me and say things they would never say to my face
  • Thank God there are some really cool people that come to my defense!
  • People from countries outside of the US have thrown some insults at me that I don't understand.
  • My fellow domainers are literally upset that I sold a domain for a lot of money and I don't know why - isn't that the goal for all of us?
  • I have been ridiculed for losing my job like I deserve it because I sold the name for so much? I don't see the connection
  • My job as an IT manager was garbage and that's all I could get with my low IQ? (I have a degree and was summa cum laude - look it up if you don't know)
  • I shouldn't talk about my sales
  • I left money on the table
  • I didn't get enough money
  • I ripped off the buyer
  • I rip people off by offering low prices for names I want to buy. Um - yes. Who pays full retail for anything they want to resell? I am not an end user. I don't force anyone to sell me anything. If you don't like the price we shake hands and walk away.
  • I had a broker who couldn't get an offer on two domains I hired him to sell, one of them hatred.com, attempting to insult me with a goose and duck reference? He also tried to impress me with his sales this year (none of them mine)
So again, this post will fill with haters and arguments. I am asking that you please refrain from saying anything negative. None of you know me personally and I have never ever stolen anything from any of you.
I am sad for this community, you have no idea what kind of scum is lurking here.
Instead of insulting me for whatever reason you deem necessary - go out and sell some names to end users. Its that simple, stop using me as way to escape the reality of your poor or low sales. Start sending emails and cold calling, that's what I do and it works.
I was trying to help you - all of you! Its that simple, and you turned it into a circus of hell. Go back and read the article and try to replicate.

True, but in an industry that sells intangible things trust is mandatory.

I do not agree with taking advantage of people in need " buying but you must be desperate to sell " which equals " I will be taking advantage of you because I know you are in need ". THAT is capitalism gone wrong.

Is there nothing wrong with that? I don't not know. Ethically there is, at least for me.

If you have an idea of what karma is or the more western way to say it " what goes around comes around " , I am sure you would not want to be on the other side of it having a wife and 2 kids. Think about that for a second.

There was one person here on the forum...cocky as hell. We all know how he ended up.

I have said this before- if someone needs money now - I will buy now
I have been is the same spot and I sold cheap but I was grateful for the money

Right so I'm not really following this thread.

Has the domain sold for $150K or not? The whois still seems to be showing uglydork's name and the domain just appears to be forwarded to Milo's amazon page?

I can't believe this thread is still going! 300 posts now.

And that last statement sums up business. Sorry but the truth might hurt.

I have bought, sold and brokered things my entire self employed life, without a paycheck from anybody. These domain sales are great and a lot less work than physical goods, and not to belittle them at all, are nothing like other industries where even more money change hands and you work them for a couple years. The economy "sucks in cycles", so you need to "fire sale" things sometimes to keep the cash flowing, you lose money, you throw things out you get tired of sitting on (names dropped in this industry), you start over and look for more bargains. You lose time and a lot of money! So what. Your wholesale based customers smell your cash desperation if you broadcast it or pressure it and you sell anyway. I have sold things way under "fair market value" to customers, all because I needed the cash. Never once did I get upset at their writing a paltry check, but was sincerely grateful. You move forward always. It was your choice to sell, if it was a lowball price, so what. Sell or move on. Be happy for any offers even low ones.

Anybody that begrudges success of others entrepreneurs with cash or being an opportunist, should accept that is capitalism. Most who complain probably never have achieved any prior success in business.

Money problems are never income problems, they are expense problems.

Those people who can't handle the stress and need security should go to work for the post office or be a social worker on gov't salaries instead.

It sold

It seems that people quite often leave the whois unchanged. Some registrars update it on receipt, and I think they should all do this.

Damn - this thread won't die and I still have another interview to go

The more domainers who are buying on forums is a good thing. It helps drive up prices. Kinda how the appraisal section is a little messed up. Lots of people value other domains XXX-XXXX yet, themselves won't bid X when it comes available for sale. So kudos for you for buying off other domainers.

Everybody hates me as well, not because of my domain sales which totally suck this year, but right now I am sitting on a topless beach in Jamaica with a nice joint in 1 hand, and stiff cocktail in the other hand:)

Congrats on the sale! Well Deserved!

Don't enjoy too much 150k blows away really fast. I took a vacation recently and between the trip for the whole family and lost income from my three businesses I was probably out almost 45k.

That 150k was 130k spent when I received it. I paid every debt we owed but the house and cars then I got laid off! This is savings we already set aside for vacation

Domaining is not so much about being kind, but smart. There are many selfish businessmen, also domainers.

However, the combination smart (including realistic) + friendly is unbeatable. At least from my point of view.

I want to open a chick fil a
You sure? Open a fast food restaurant????? That's seems like real punishment. Dealing with general public too.

Have you ever been to a chick fil a store opening?

It's a great time! You camp out all night in exchange for a gift card with 365 chick-fil-a sandwiches free if you stay all night.

I know, its just fast food is way too many hours, a franchise fee always and too much hands on work! I knew a McDonalds owner/manager, he was always worn out. As a kid I worked in a take out for a family that owned several franchises, they were stuck with no vacations and worked all the time. Retail/Restaurants are just not my thing.
But hey, if that is your passion, go for it!
Why not try a dry cleaning or a service business?

Interesting read about that - http://www.businessinsider.com/what-it-costs-to-open-a-chick-fil-a-2017-4

While it does not require the startup cost of many other restaurant chains, it seems like the selection process is very limited -

"Chick-fil-A gets more than 20,000 inquiries from franchisee candidates every year. From those candidates, Chick-fil-A selects between 75 to 80 new franchisees annually, Hannah said."

I remember when I was younger I tried to put a Subway into a heritage building and I had it all drawn up and funded and even had booths that looked like old subway booths. It was probably one of the most thought out and better funded projects and the idiots fro Subway turned me down. I ended up selling the plans, location and idea to someone else who opened a coffee shop/ sandwich place and he did really well.

Wanting and getting a franchise are two completely different things. It is very much an inside thing with preference going to current franchises who already have a store.

We need to get out of the EU, and into the real world. When I first read that, I thought you wanted to start an internet dating site. :)

I still don't know what a chick fil a is? Is it like Greggs here in the uk https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greggs

Does sound like a knocking shop though ;)

Awesome sale btw. As Malcolm X said..... Envy blinds men and makes it impossible for them to think clearly.

Such is life!
