I would really appreciate if fellow NPers would help with the choice of brand for my future business.

The idea is to reveal the business area a bit later, so that opinions are expressed on the options by themselves. What kind of associations come to mind when you see the name, when you say it out loud, what business would you assume just by looking at/hearing the name.

Please write your response without reading responses by others, if possible.

Then I will share the business area I am looking for to see how that gauges against the expressed perceptions. I have .com of all the names below that I am seeking feedback on:

A G B A

A N E M

A X O T

E E X O

E F Z Y

E L I X

E U V O

U L D Y

Thanks!!!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
You are right. Does remind of elixir and also actually is medical term for extracting.

What type of business(es) would you associated Anem with?
Anem could be just about anything. It's actually got some historical pretext as an old biblical city. When I say it out loud it sounds like Anum, I think it's got a kind of financial/accounting feel (Think "Per Anum").

@Recons.Com if you give us the concept we can nail the name.

I think I got enough for now of general association, although if anyone adds before seeing the intended application, it will be appreciated.

I am looking to start up a high end fashion brand. Quality would be on par with Versace, Armani etc.

Everything would be made in Europe from the best materials by best craftsmen.

Suits, shirts, briefcases, bags, accessories, belts, shoes, watches etc. would be made.

Would be for men, women, kids, home.

Most great brands have some type of association linked to the name. Some are acronyms, an association to the designer or something else that gives the name meaning. Not always but it does help to create a love for the brand. Hard to find a real association with any of these names but here are some stretches.

EEXO could be "Love of Excessive Extravagance" with the XO meaning love. EUVO could work since EU stands for European and you said everything would be european made and VO could be a short version of Vogue or In Vogue. Since it's a luxury brand then maybe AGBA could stand for individual words like, Affluence, Gratification, Bliss, Abundance. ELIX could be "The 9". EL means The in Spanish and IX is the number 9 in roman numerals. The 9 could translate to the popular saying "Dressed to the Nines" which means dressed to perfection or high class. I know some of these are stretches but may get the gears rolling with something else.

ELIX all the way then. It has to be something people will remember easily.

With all due respect why manufacturer in Europe and pay 3 times more than India where the very brands you're competing with produce their products?

2 reasons:

1. European craftsmanship is superior

2. I want the makers of my products, not just the owners, but actual makers, make decent living, even if it means higher costs.

I hate it when all those big companies are selling their end products for $xxx to $xxxx while their manufacturers pay pennies an hour to workers.

I was planning to use Elix for ELectronIX project, making smartwatches, ebikes, gadgets etc., but am open to making it an umbrella brand for luxurious quality items and services, including electronics, fashion etc.

Interesting that "meaningless" word combos can cause similar associations in different people ))

Euvo was in the shortlist exactly for the reason you mentioned. EU for Europe, VO either as branding suffix (word+vo) to mean pretty much "European" or Euro+Vogue, meaning European Fashion, European Chic/Luxury.

The same with Elix. Also noticed "9" in the end ) Love number 9. There is a magic to it. It is a known fact that prices ending in 9 sell better ) But if I choose Elix, it will be as an umbrella brand for wider range, as I wrote above. Not sure I want to give it Spanish angle though )) Maybe when advertising to Spanish speaking markets )

Swap for the better 4L. Check for example Fashion brands using 4-letter.
Muse a bit about the name. Once you're in there's no out.

If one keeps looking for "better" he would never settle. Uber now seems as a great brand but there was nothing about it making it better for car services than hundreds of other alternatives.

Main point for branding is to find a brand that fits your purpose, can have a story behind and then you just run with it.

Uldy def gonna be the brand.

I like ULDY, because it evokes association with ULTIMATE in my mind. But probably in this case other names might be better fit and I'll come up with another project for it.

Ultimate was what I thought as well

But then again why would a clothing line want to be the ultimate design;)

What will the character of the brand be ?
That should be taken into account too, before you decide on a name.

Is it about high quality, or great style, or trendiness and novelty ?

Sometimes you need a "sturdy" name like IBM , other times you need something light like Lululemon.

A G B A agriculture
A N E M too close to anal
A X O T accidental - sounds to me like axe ott
E E X O meh reminds me of xe, likely this is my least favorite
E F Z Y very similar to efty or etsy - which I have confused in the past already LOL
E L I X elixir or food like e (electronic) Licks
E U V O Euro V something
U L D Y out loud would say like "oldie" with a U uldie

agree with @Dave - like elix the best and was difficult not to see that post for subliminal influence : grin :

It would be classy fashion. Not rushing after every trend, yet fully in control. I truly believe beautiful look is timeless and does not depend on trends. It wouldn't be just high quality, it would be the top quality competing with Armani, Versace etc. So no lululemon, but no IBM either ))

Based on my own perception and the feedback provided by all of you (many many thanks for all the time taken), I have narrowed it down to:

1. Elix as an umbrella brand (Fashion, Tech etc.)

2. or EUVO for this business only, as again to me Euvo=Eu+vo suffix = European or European Vogue

3. or AXOT for this business only. Reminds me of Ascot with its royal events, fashion etc. and generally has more British feel to it, which can be both great and not so much if the main focus for craftsmanship is Italy, Spain, Portugal, France etc. Interestingly, most companies/businesses using "Axot" in the beginning of their brand are in France. Anyone knows if it makes some sense to a francophone?

your perception is quite different from mine )

AGBA - my own last name starts with AG, so can put that story behind it as well ) Also it helps that it is a dictionary word for a valuable wood, so could be great name for a furniture line.

Anem - since it means "wind", "life", "animation", the best fit would be renewable energy or movies etc. I don't know how you got that association from it )))

Axot - not bad angle ) Maybe good fit for insurance )

EEXO - [ēkso] like its sound and look, but see it more and more fit for an entertainment project with prizes etc.

EFZY - FZ angle would work here as "Fashion Zone", but still would be better fit for a trendy fashion rather than for classy fashion.

ULDY - I assume this association with "old" is not good in this instance and seem like few people get that association. So will use it for a different business.

Overall, this is a fascinating thread. Getting first impressions from our grand mix of NP cultures and language speakers is enlightening. Have had the same experience with domains that I liked until someone pointed out some negative association with it that I hadn't thought of before. My first impression of ANEM is hysterical compared to the many who saw it as AMEN : ROFL :

OK I really did post first without reading, nice instant gratification to then read from the thread beginning and get the reveal already!

Euro Vogue wins me over now that I know the concept, elix is higher energy but maybe too hyper for luxuryfashion - euvo is more relaxed and upper class, if that makes sense.

In my opinion, EUVO for a European based high end fashion brand would be fantastic!
EU for European Union
VO similar to Seagrams VO which stands for "Very Own" or "Very Old" depending on who you ask?
Pronounced "You Vo"
So Europe's Very Own High End Fashion Brand introducing EUVO!
I love it!

ELIX would be a great brand for a premium liquor!
AGBA has great potential for an end user sale for multiple groups and companies, the best being the Academy for Global Business Advancement.
ANEM also has end user potential with 3 groups using that acronym.

@TheDot.shop - hooray! I knew the VO reminded me of some brand thing, and I was about to have to search to figure out what - I had a vague idea of a bottle and was thinking it was perfume LOL You saved me fruitless searching.

I am really glad and grateful that so many of you, guys, agreed to be focus group and brand consultants at the same time ) Happy to return the favor for anyone here ))

Agree, "Very Own" works too ) Thanks, did not think of it. So it is a good fit as 1) EU + branding suffix; 2) EUropean VOgue; 3) Europe's Very Own;

Though there will be link to traditions, don't want to focus on old ) Classy, not classic )

Elix for liquor: not thought of that, but I guess "extracting" aspect helps. Had inquiry from a electrical investigations expert, he thought it would be perfect fit for his rebranding EL for electric+ i for investigation, then he explained X part too and also said it is a term in the industry.
