auctions Castro just died & Fidel.com sold for $16K one week before

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
Fidel.com sold for $16K last Friday on Snapnames (1 week before Castro's death) I'm thinking it may be worth less (then it could have been) now that he is dead, hard to say, but not the usual case.

Is there a way to find out if thr name was owned by a domainer before it got dropped?

The previous owner has domain ownership history of being affiliated with 3,022 domains. (mostly .fr domains)

Edit: Look's like I'm mistaken. Previous registrant email, [email protected], is to a French Registrar?

I have met lots of people from Spanish-speaking countries. Given the notoriety of the name, who names their kid Fidel? Juan or Carlos or Mateo or Pablo would be more common.

Juan is common, Jose is, Jesus, Carlos , all common.

This doesn't really matter; defind common nouns VS proper noun. People can speak the language but they wouldn't want to understand these two animals.

Well, if so, he most likely got no offer on it. Then, let it drop. We can't know for sure. Maybe he forgot to renew?

Most people don't even want to register their own name, let alone spend $16,000 for a name.

Ones who do spend are celibrities or rich people.
How many Fidel are famous?

Is there a Cigar named Fidel?
Or are you saying some one would hopefully buy Fidel.com to brand a cigar?
You just made me giggle :joyful:

You guy want brand a cigar Fidel because Fidel Castro likes cigar?

Is that why it's worth $16 k?

Well the cigar comment was more of a joke, but very well could be a cigar brand given Cuba is known for cigars.

Realistically, domain owner could have sold to a number of companies named Fidel + Keyword. Maybe less $16k, or (maybe more than $16k) as this depends on the budget of the interested enduser.

Here's a streeeeeeeeeeeetch, but maybe fidelity could use it, lol.

Lastly, I was mistaken about previous domain owner owning 3k domains. Registrant email was to a registrar (maybe domain management service - can't tell it's french. [ordipat.fr]). Will look more into it later to see if I can uncover other domains owned by this person.

Clearly you don't understand domain valuations, this domain is worth more now, as this is blasted on tv all day now.

I see many do not like him, but many in his country do, I am sure many new babies born will be named after him in Cuba.

Along with Cuba being opened up for investment, so this name could be used as a branding play.

If you watch the aftermarkets, names don't come cheap, especially 5 letter .coms's.

You know I took Spanish classes for 4 years, listened to Spanish music and use to watch Spanish movies. I live in California and Florida, lots of Spanish (Mexican in CA)and Cuban (in FL) population. When I practice optometry at my private practice for 12 years in CA, half of the people that came to see me were Spanish. I don't remember seeing any Fidel. I saw a few with the last name Castro.

The only Fidel I know is Fidel Castro. It's well known he loves to smoke cigars.
It's not a surprise to anyone.

Ok - new theory on previous domain owner, and why it dropped.

The domain admin contact was: [email protected]

According to Mr Bedleem's linked in page, he worked for Pouchain SAS as an IS Administrator from 2013 to June 2016.

The domain expired September 2016. This leads me to assume the renewal emails went to an unmonitored or deleted email account. haha :D

Thanks for the research.

I would take fidel.com over courtesy.vip. Any time.

Ok, I own.. SHOPCUBAOLINE.COM; and, CUBATAXHELP.COM; These names should spark interest with web marketing to consumers. Cuba has a lot of unique items for sale at their shops, it would be nice to have one secure place in which to view/buy items. Tax experts for businesses doing business in Cuba, as the tax rules/laws differ then those of the U.S.

Ok, the domain names in question are for the English, or bilingual. the names work "as is" because, say if someone in the U.S. does business with Cuba in the future, they may want to know what their tax liabilities are. A tax firm, or lawyer would love to help companies, or individuals file papers, see loopholes, etc. once big companies in the U.S. start to do business in Cuba, the smaller startups usually follow (The big money.) these workers/owners may not have a tax lawyer on staff, so what will they do? .. they will find a tax attorney. but not just any tax attorney. They'll be looking for an attorney that specialize in Cuban tax law. Law firms will see the value of owning a domain name like.. CUBATAXHELP.COM. as for SHOPCUBAONLINE.COM, it has Big! POTENTIAL ALL OVER IT.
