Annualized rate based on DNBolt numbers for April.

Michael's - 4.71%
Everyone minus Michael - 2.44%.

And when you consider that names have to be approved by BB first, there really is no natural reason for someone to get a much higher rate like this.

Now basically question is if hypothetically MK's names were out of BB for a month, would BB's sale ratio go from 2.8% to 2.4% or it would still be 2.8%. Not to mention that 2.8% is not impressive at all, as effective BB fee is around 35% (30% commission, logo fee, submission fee), BB's effective sale ratio compared to own shop is 2.8% x 65% = 1.83% and adjusted for MK's portfolio it is just 1.58%. Those are awful numbers.

There are names in his portfolio that I have seen better names rejected. While there are really nice ones, no, by analyzing it, it is not that better.

Both ways ("MK's names are great, average BB names are bad", "MK's names are great, BB names are great") it sends out very bad message.

19+4+2+2+2+38=67 names out of around 28,500.

That is 2.8% annualized, so it is not a slight drop form previous 3.8%.

And if you factor in that MK owns almost 1/6 of all names and sells almost 1/3.5 of all names, it starts looking very bad for BB with "average Joe" sales probably in 2%-2.5%.

I missed to include the remaning 6 user which pays more money for privacy. so it should be:
19+4+2+2+2+38=67+6
But remember we could still experience drops as some sale my end up not being finalized.

These figures are what really concerns me.

Most sellers get 0 sales a month, and those that do get sales is 1 every few months, compared to Michael who gets 19. I try to remain positive about BB but it is very hard to see how they are working for everyone.

It seems they really do not care as long as they can reported high sales for one member rather than higher sales for all sellers across the board.

He currently has 4500+ of his own names on the site, should't we expect that he is likely to sell more than others?

People work very hard for their money, and then choose to invest into BB which says they are a platform for sellers to sell their domains. But it feels like they position certain domains depending on who owns them (member of BB).

The sale rate of Michael compared to others is a warning light and from what I have read (every page in this thread) they seem to not care about how that looks.

I have been looking at this over the last couple of days and I do not see any preferential treatment given in terms of where his names are positioned on the site.

I have one domain containing the word 'farm' on BB. After searching through Michaels portfolio and noting all of his names containing the word farm I searched keyword 'farm' and he had roughly the same amount placed above my one name as he did below. I repeated this with a few other keywords and results were similar.

The only unfair advantage I could see was all of his logos had larger text than mine. I had opted for the $100 logo and would hate to pay any more than that. I imagine if I had gone for the $500 option the logos would likely be of the same quality.

My friend do more searching or try clicking on their Adwords on google and search again. There is even once I saw 4 of krell domain listed on the landing page out of 10. But they alternate the names after each reload.

Michael sells more names for a reason.
He is not luckier...
He does not abuse any system...
He does not voodoo dance naked every full moon (that he admits ;)) chanting prayers to the domain Gods...

Instead of ranting about conspiracy theories wouldn't it be better to look at WHY a domain has sold?

Let's take the last 3 names that sold according to DNBolt.

C/r.i.p/t/i.q
Now google it: https://www.google.com/search?q=cryptiq&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b

E/n/r.o.l/o
Now google it: https://www.google.com/search?q=enrolo&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b

C/o/u.r.s/e/C/u.b.e
Now google it: https://www.google.com/search?q=coursecube&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b

I don't know who owned these names on BB but they all bought SMART domains! They've effectively doubled their chances of selling their brandable.

Seriously? You are wasting time and energy in the wrong places. Look at WHY a name has sold, not who sold it, and use what you learn from that to emulate the same when buying your domains for listing in marketplaces, then you too will have a higher than average sales rate ;)

Good luck.

I didn't manage to go through an ad on google after reloading a fair few times google stopped showing me any ads. I will test this out when I come across one.
When I search farm on BB the names are positioned the same as they were yesterday, I reloaded, the same. I searched a few more terms then farm again - same result all names positioned in the same place.
By the way, I have just started reading your blog recently and really enjoy it, some great info on there also the sold on BB pictures are really helpful! So thank you!
I actually think it would be good if it was more random, so each time you search a specific term the order is mixed up.

Search for brandable domain on google or related keywords you should see their ads. But only click once so that you don't waste their money since you wouldn't be buying their domains. Then click on START BRAINSTORMING > or the next. Then perform whois on the names you see 10. They used to be in a row but seems like they chnaged their format. Reload the pages many times and perform whois and take note of how many times krell names appear.

So basically you are saying non-MK names are bad/worse and they deserve to sell at 2.4%? How you demonstrating that his names sold for reason explains why other names of similar qualities did not sell?

You are completely missing the point here. If BB average sales without MK ones were 4% and above, nobody cares if he sells at 8%, although questions would remain.

But when average sales for non-MK names are at 2.4% and MK beats that by double, of course everyone wants to understand what is exactly going on and your zero-fact-providing "defense" helps in no way.

And don't need your advise on selling names either. I am doing fine with my names, thank you.

Where did I imply that non-MK names are bad/worse and they deserve to sell at 2.4%? I didn't.

I DID imply that that SMART names are more likely to sell. It goes without saying that some members of BB buy smarter names than other members.

As with all domaining, not just BB.

I tried 'brand names' brand name ideas' 'business name ideas' etc but no BB ads showed. I will try again shortly and see if there is any difference.
Of course I will only click once. I felt bad enough knowing that the other companies were effectively being charged for impressions even though I did not click anything.

Im new to all this so trying to figure out whether sticking with BB is worth it or not I am happy to do some research. I will let you know when I come across one of their ads. But don't worry I wont become fixated with this just would be nice to know exactly what I am dealing with here. Appreciate your help.

But doesn't BB approve only "smarter" names? Or you mean there is a cut-off point for smartness and BB cuts it off not high enough and members should be even more selective? That some have truly elite names only? Well, guess what, even the best selling portfolios contain bunch of names that are headscratchers. There are quite a few names that would not be even accepted if submitted by unrelated party, example *+u+*+i+i, word with last "e" removed and "ly" added, word+er+ly, *iwee...

They might have excluded UK from the geo targeting, which makes sense as UK companies would have big preference for .uk, and BB specializes in .com, .ly

You are quite right, BB does not approve only smarter names, they are first and foremost a brandable marketplace and they look to fill their inventory with brandable domains aimed primarily at start ups.

Brandables are a growing market, relatively still in it's infancy. In the meantime, you can improve your sales rate by buying smarter brandable names, just like some other people have done.

So you are sure/you assume specifically my names are sub par? And, so are the names of 999 other sellers on BB not named MK, I suppose, given their 2.4% sell through ratio?

Do you seriously think you are helping BB with that line?

You might have changed IP, but you have not deleted your cookies, I assume? There might have been other targetings that make your profile fit under the criteria.

They could have also chosen to show the ads on google dot com version only excluding country specific google domains.
