ok. i think it's time to ask the obvious and most important question - i don't know if that's been asked before in this thread.

@michaeljkrell , is there any limit for domains listed at BB? Right now they are ~25K. So when this will end - 30K? 50K? 100K?

I believe we, as sellers, must know this so we can plan our investments in BB names.

Thanks.

Good to see BB has started sharing more sales data. Now all we need is the names and sales prices and I can start including them in my weekly chart. :)

According to the newsletter they sold more than double the number of domains last month as compared to January 2015. They only had 9k domains listed in January last year compared to 25k plus at the moment so it's pretty save to assume the percentage of names they sell has not improved.

This also shows that putting a limit on the number of domains wouldn't make much sense from a business perspective. The more inventory they have, the more revenue and profit the company makes.

I've only sold 2 domains with BrandBucket. Both domains sold within 2 weeks of the 12/4 newsletter. There were only 221 domains on that newsletter and I alone sold 2. I believe in the power of the newsletter.
You're honestly wasting your energy with this. I'm selling names that have been listed for many months if not years. I'm sure the newsletter helps, but the issue you flag is unfortunate and little more.

I have been selling on eBay since 2008, everything from coins to domains to Bitcoin and art. I have seen eBay grow every year. However, I don't see my sales dropping at all, sometimes it slows down, but every year, I do more and more sales than the previous year. My point is, people search eBay and find what they need, and there is a lot more than 25K items on eBay.

The odds of someone 'scrolling' through 25K names to find what they want is highly unlikely, they will simply use the search function. As Michael Krell said in the newsletter: "In addition to overhauling the homepage we have made our search UI more intuitive, and increased our site speed with dozens of database optimizations."

Currently I have two clients that are looking for names on BB, one is looking to name her product for 'mothers' and the other client is looking to buy a name for his home 'brew'. If you search on BB for 'mothers' or 'mother' or 'mom' you get a very limited selection! If you search for 'Beer' or 'Brew' or 'Brewery' you also get just one short page of results on BB. Neither of my clients can find a name on BB that suits them...yet. This is two current examples of why BB needs more names! (IMO)

Cheers!

@Domainzy

Your above post is beautiful! Thank you.

It not only illustrates strategic moves made by BrandBucket and the reasons for them, it also shares with us needs the platform has.

A successful retail outlet (Walmart, Target, etc) will share their POS data with their product providers. As an analyst for an electronics manufacturer, I receive POS data weekly from dozens of national retail chains for trend analysis and channel management purposes.

Why? Because product suppliers want to shelve product that sells... and so do successful retailers.

Along those lines, the solution to BrandBucket's need for a more robust set of names for the examples your shared "brew", "brewery", "mother", etc is to share with your suppliers (sellers) a weekly email of 10-12 recent specific Search Terms that occurred on BB so we can invest capital and provide tailored inventory to help fulfill those needs.

Suggestion - test the model - ask BB to email their Top 20 sellers a weekly list of 10-12 specific Search Terms and these providers will happily fill your shelves with precision inventory.

Mutual success through collaboration.

I want to invest capital in names that can generate cash-flow by filling l a need. Do others agree this is a more efficient approach than the current model of flying blind?

-Jim

ps: Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the summary newsletter that is provided. Thank you. But now let's roll up our sleeves and get down to actionable drivers.

@Domainzy, thank you for your post.

However - it doesn't answer my question. Do you have some number in mind or not?
That is what I am asking.

Yes!

We all continue to blindly add names, but I'm not sure we're improving the marketplace as much as we could be. It would be nice to have some more focus.

The seller's newsletter is nice, and the list of "Top Keywords Searched" in that newsletter is somewhat useful, but I think something far more useful would be a list of keyword searches for which BB has insufficient inventory. Sellers would immediately fill that need with quality names, I guarantee it.

I suspect BB is missing a lot of sales to buyers in smaller niches, and we sellers can fix that if given the focus.

Another idea to improve sales... BB should consider sending a second Buyer newsletter each week. The Friday newsletter with new names is great. How about a Monday newsletter with existing inventory? Names that have been in the marketplace for a while... It could list staff picks, or bargains, or super premium names, or 4-letter names, etc. It could be themed by price... It could be themed by industry. There are lots of ways to do this. It doesn't have to be a huge list. I would think that clients who receive the existing newsletter wouldn't mind a second email each week with more ideas for names.

Can someone please forward the 2 last buyer newsletters to [email protected]? I'm just very curious to see how it looks and if some of my names were showcased..

Thanks!

Perhaps Femum.com will interest your client. Female and mum association.

I'm a member for less than a week, but I'm pleased with BrandBucket.
Out of 5 submitted names, they accepted 3, rejected 1, and 1 is still pending. The funny thing is that the name I considered the most valuable has been rejected, and the second best was valued for the lowest price :)

I think it's an idea that might work, but why the limit to the top 20 sellers? That would get the rest of us (non-top sellers) in a clear disadvantage. So the top 20 would be able to increase their advantage, and it would make it virtually impossible for the rest of the sellers to try to close the gap and fight to become a top seller.

Unless I'm missing some point, which is perfectly possible. ;)

So far I love the new design. I just had an other sale a few days ago. This name was sitting on the self for a few years, but went for a really good price. Thanks BB.

Also, I still think we should have the option to add our own keywords and catagories to our names. What do you think @michaeljkrell?

I like the idea of adding our own keywords and categories.

Is this something that BB can consider? @michaeljkrell

@Domain.BUZZ Thanks for the suggestions. We are working on ways to better approach potential end-users through more targeted email campaigns.

@zozypapa @Kenndien Yeah, this is something we will definitely consider.

Whilst it appears most are doing well I have yet to register a sale in 2016 :(
145 names and nothing so far. I sold 1 x month from Aug-Dec last year - I remain positive and I know the stats say I will probably sell 4-6 a year. Well done all who have made sales.

Ah, my accepted/rejected ratio declined, from the glorious 60% to the not-so-bad 40%. I hope after sending 50 names I still have a 20% success rate :)

While certain frustrations have turned me into a BB reseller as of late, I still remain loyal to BrandBucket when it comes to endusers.

Email transcript from today:

Hi Christopher,

Hope you are well and having a great weekend.

I wanted to reach out about your domain name of kid***.com. While I am totally in love with it, paying around 2k dollars is a bit out of my budget.

As a mumpreneur, I was wondering if there is any way you could make this more affordable?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best Regards,

**********

My response:

Hi *******,

Thanks for reaching out! As a Vetrepreneur myself I can appreciate your savviness.

As you probably know Kid***.com is listed with BrandBucket.com. Per our agreement, while listed, I am bound by their pricing module.

For a quick sale, I can lower it to $x,xxx and authorize an additional 10% off. Let me know if this interests you, and I'll set it in motion.

Regards,
Chris

Ironically, today I looked up this domain for the first time in while after I noticed a similar 6L BB approved Kid domain for sale at $XXX reseller price on NP. I was troubled to see the domain had been cached in 15 different NP sales threads for several months since the member didn't S*t*a*r out the domain or delete the body of the thread.

The point being, I separate resellers from endusers and NP Selling from BB Selling. Obviously, I can make the domain more affordable by setting up a Escrow.com transaction and eliminating BrandBucket's 30%. Nonetheless, the line between BrandBucket reseller and seller has to be drawn somewhere. Fingers crossed for a BB Sale soon...

...The sale will come as soon as BrandBucket responds with a purchase link :D

Hi Seller,

Thanks for coming back to me so quickly. Really appreciate it.

Just a quick question. Does the below offer of $X,XXX also include the logo as mentioned on Brandbucket?

Me

Hi Buyer,

Yes. All purchases through BrandBucket include full rights to the domain and logo.

Hi Seller,

We have decided to go ahead with the purchase. I have contacted Brand Bucket but haven't heard yet from them.

Could you help us buy this domain?

Me
Hi Buyer,

Great news! It's definitely a lovable kid themed domain that deserves to be developed. I'm really excited to see what it ends up becoming.

I emailed both BrandBucket's sales and support staff. They are usually pretty responsive, however, it's Sunday morning, so we may have to wait a few hours to receive a response. I instructed them to email you a purchasing link.

BrandBucket will provide you detailed instructions about the purchase and transfer process. DOMAIN is currently registered with GoDaddy.com. You will have the option to push or transfer the domain to the registrar of your choice. In respect of your mumpreneurship, I'll add an extra year of registration time to the current expiration.

Feel free to reach out with any questions you may have.

Regards,
Chris

PS. It's been a tough week silencing my BB frustrations. I've tried to avoid the stress of looking at the undoted I's and uncrossed T's. I finally cracked earlier this morning, as depicted in my 10 response emails to 10 recently published domains with logo's you can basically do in 5 minutes with NamePros text editor.

On one hand, I wish I didn't flood their email system (only 10) thus delaying my buyer from receiving their link to purchase at 10% off listed price. On the other hand, as demonstrated by my buyers logo inquiry, a good logo helps sell a domain. It would be upsetting to see a similar knockoff domain with a better logo sell on another marketplace because of the better visual presentation. Don't get me wrong, BB has some great logo designers, but there's a few who basically use a generic font, and change the color of one letter, and expect $100 for their 5 minutes of work when the domain sells.

@Grilled Jesus Why don't you login to your BB backend and 'edit your domain' to reduce the price by 10% (or to whatever you agreed with the purchaser)? Then you don't have to bother BB and the purchaser can press the button now.

I lowered the price to the minimum allowed. The additional 10% reduction is in reference to the 10% PreApproved discount.

Ahhh OK, I wondered if you had left the price where it was (or increased it) thereby allowing you to 'reduce the price by 10%' without having to contact BB.

I understand now.
