I am going to tell you about a gigantic project going on in Abu Dhabi called Reem Island. This project is so huge 3 of the largest developers in the UAE(Tamouh, Sorouh, and Reem Investments) are building it. It is even bigger than The Pearl Qatar project that appeared in this forum last June.

- Reem Island is a combined residential, commercial and business project being built on a natural island off the coast of Abu Dhabi City and will be directly connected to Abu Dhabi City by a number of bridges. The location of Reem Island is only 20 minutes from Abu Dhabi International Airport.

- Reem Island will accomodate and estimated 280,000 residents. Some estimates go as high as 350,000!!

- Reem Island will contain Numerous hotels, resorts, beaches, spas, shopping malls, restaurants, medical clinics, many, many businesses, a 27 hole golf course, etc., etc.

- Just one of the business projects on Reem Island is Addax Port. By itself Addax is a massive port project which will contain 5 huge towers: an office tower and 4 other residential towers. And this is just one "small" part of Reem Island.

- Of course there will be tons of luxury condos and homes and villas, etc. to accomodate the huge number of residents of Reem Island.

- Reem Island will eventually be the "center" of Abu Dhabi which is the Richest of all the Emirates. Even richer than Dubai.

- Do a google search to get lots more info on Reem Island and here are a few sites to get you started: ReemIsland.com, AddaxPort.com, ReemInvestments.com. There are many more.

- There are still many good names left. I picked up:

ReemIslandProperties.com

ReemProperties.com

...but there are still many more left. As a domainer if you miss out on Reem Island you will never forgive yourself. Good luck and I hope this post was of help to you.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
This whole thread has the word "bubble" all over it, I don't mean dubai itself, I mean the sorts of names being registered by people. It is very reminiscent of all the crazy themed registrations of the past, "3g", "wap" etc, I would think pretty much everyone buying these names is going to lose most of what they have put in. No matter how big these areas get as tourist destinations I really doubt there is ever going to be a market for related domain names that would justify 99.9% of what has been registered.

Snoop, that is yet another rushed remark from your side. I have myself sold Dubai related domains ranging from $500 to $8000 (so called regfee names). Surely big % of the registered domains are worthless, but isn't it the same in every niche?? Dubai currently is on low fire, but I believe it will slowly pick up. Currently I only get enquires for properties once a week, but it will definitely change from September on.

It seems a lot worse to me, one of those "trend" areas where lots of names are registered despite very weak actual demand.

From purely domainers perspective it is true, however hopefully a big number of them are developing these domains, as the search figures are very good, and even with the current PPC drop it still is a nice niche. I'm also not sure where do you get the "weak demand" from, do you have a portfolio of UAE related names that never had offers? I know that most sales don't get reported.

I must admit I have'nt seen that many actual sales posted anywhere either and i have'nt sold any yet, I think the best offer I'v had so far was around 7k .There seems to be some good ones dropping all the time, some of of mine are 8 or 10 years old but I would be content enough to develop them one day if I don't get a great offer in the next few years.

I have heard they may be planning to purchase .dubai which may be why there seems to be a serious lack of interest within ?? + they have the .ae anyway

AbuDhabiTourism.com is still for sale on Sedo, even though the tourism board use the same in .ae ?? (I don't know what the asking price is though).

Everday it gets more obvious that endusers don't think the same way as most domainers do ;)

I think that seems to be the key from what I have seen, don't buy too many of them unless you would be willing to develop them.

I'm seen no evidence of much demand for these names. It is a bit like not many manhattan*.com names are sold or paris*.com's. No matter how big this project is the demand for secondary market city domains is never going to be that large.

To put it is perspective namebio shows zero sales for "reemisland", zero for "reem" related names, "dubai" has about 30 sales, half of which were sales under $100 and only 4 of which sold this year.

So all in all people are registering a whole lot of names related to a terms that have never seen a single reported sale? An island that when completed is expect to have a population that is 3% the size of Paris? That is madness.

Snoop, do you realize that Al Reem Island is lightyears away from completion? Of course there are no sales now, however knowing the reserves that Abu Dhabi has, they would be able to build even Paris on the sand dunes of UAE.
I agree that 95% of the names will always be worthless, but alreemisland.tld's are nice domains + the keywords: hotel, real estate, property, properties, rental too. If I look back a couple of years, I know I should have bought DubaiMarinaHotels.com, DubaiMarinaApartments.com etc.. Which is a nearly completed project in Dubai.

 Keep watching the drops tetrapak, names like that are dropping all the time, I just bought TheWorldHotels.com a few weeks back, sure - its not going to get much type in traffic for many years but for development purposes its pretty much spot on for my needs and long-term plan.

Looking at it purely as a domainer it may make no sense buying names like this for PPC unless you are willing to wait long enough until these projects are fully up and running, could be many years and even then there is no guarantee of getting much type in traffic....in the meantime they are, as they say - just a liability.

However, If dozens of people have already paid 4 million + per island even before any building work starts I think they are the ones taking the HUGE RISK compared to me paying 10 years reg fees :hehe:

Has anyone seen the new Yas Marina Circuit website, looks nice :tu: > Yas Marina Circuit

I think tetrapak would be a very good judge for those 3, I know he has followed/researched and also developed mini-sites related to the marina projects over the last few years, I'v went for more general names rather that specific projects.

...my intial thoughts are the first and last one sounds like they could be an actual hotel ?? similar to d b x m a r i n e.com ? Still not so sure if I would keep them without researching further...whats the chance of another Hotel opening with a name so similar to the one I mentioned ?? ..even then they can just stick Hotel on the end of it or reg the .ae.

The restaurant one I would dump unless you fancy developing it, I doubt many people would fancy buying that off you to develope or people would ever type it in, even if they did there's not likely going to be an relevant PPC ads.

JMHO - best to see what tetrapak thinks of them.

Thats an excellent catch Gazzip! I actually hate Abu Dhabi for renaming the circuit.. as I own Yas Island Circuit , however it still gets 400 visits a month, not bad for a "parked" page.

The Marina names:

Beach I think is kind of a useless word, "resort" is ok for development, and "restaurants" as well. So I would drop "beach" and develop the other two.

I'm guilty too... :notme: LOL

I've dropped most of my names in the niche. I agree with most of the sentiments here about their value.

The only ones I have now are:

UniverseIslands.com - (which may have been axed altogether .. can't find a definitive answer on that one.. anybody know?)

How long are you going to keep renewing for in the hope that a market one day emerges for this city with an expected population of 300,000-400000 people? If people really thought things were looking good for these names sales would be happening.

You talk alot about property domains however property has been for sale on the island to foreigners since 2006, surely if there was ever going to be a market for these names it would have happened?

Snoop, Dubai has a population of 2.3 millilon, what is this 300k-400k?? Sales are not happening YET because of recession, not only global, but Dubai has been hit seriously. People are waiting.. Things are not looking good of course, but hopefully they will, once the property market starts to recover and tourism as well. Property domains: stay tuned until September.

( I'm just speculating here >) I beleive there has been a HUGE change regarding Dubai Property sales, the last couple of years some of the big projects had buyers/investors/speculators lining up to invest with projects often selling out on day one....not any more !

I think that from now on developers & agents are going to have to work far far harder to close those deals which in turn means they will have to look for additional ways to draw in those buyers in order to earn their commissions + once things pick up globally there will always be a resale market in the future + holiday rentals & timeshares are still on the way.

Someone dropped PalmJumeirahVillas_com last week D-: ...with this in mind how could I resist snapping it ?? ;) ....maybe I'm just an addict and I need some one on one counselling ??

I doubt anyone could deny now (athough they tried) that Dubai has took a severe battering lately but its affected them more than alot of places only because they had so many huge ambitious plans going ahead a break neck speed...the question now is .....to what extent will they recover and when ?????

Round my area house for sale signs are EVERYWHERE D-:.... Hows your area ?

I agree with you tetra that UAE real estate will come back strong, but why do you keep saying in September?? September is Ramadan and things slow down a lot in The Gulf at that time.

300-400k is the expected population of Reem Island when finished.

Ohh.. Snoop, surely you wouldn't mind owning MonacoProperty.com, now this place will have 10 times more of similarly wealthy people. I'm not a big believer of this project though, only have one domain (AlReemIsland.net), but I don't mind that $20 or so spent on it if it really works out in the end.
