1&1's Cancellation Process

Hey everyone,
I know most of us hate 1&1, but this is insane. Have any of you seen their cancellation process?

Of course every domain with them is permanently on auto-renew and can not be changed, so you have to cancel a domain to get rid of it.

First, you must call a representative or somehow figure out the cancellation URL because it's not in the normal control panel. Then, you must go through an internet cancellation maze.

After that, you have to click a link that sends you a confirmation email. Then, click the link in the email.

Now, here's the kicker. You have to click another link, print a page, and FAX them. Ha. I'm sorry, this is ridiculous.

Oh ya! This is the reason i went psycho after using 1and1 i had to wait for months for my domain to be unlocked becuase they wanted it renewed and i said no. Then i had to do all this ridicoulous amount of work, in order for me to be able to rid the name from 1and1. DONT USE THEM!

I guess we can conclude $5.99 domains come at a much higher price that is ostensibly observed :| Good luck though!

PS: I purchased a very expensive name (high $xxxx's) from an avid member using 1and1... after 7 days of painful waiting for the domain transfer (apparently they have no push function!), I was lucky enough to get it in one piece, no forms or additional glitches. Perhaps you can attempt to transfer your names away too, and may be much easier than cancelling?

On the phone with them, another addition to their maze...
If you want to transfer it out, you have to call or something for an option to be enabled so you can cancel it. I have no idea what I'm talking about because I have no idea what they're talking about.

hehe

Andreas Gauger must really hate domainers.

Nope. i wanted to transfer it to my godaddy account. I had to go through several forms, until it was finally released.

I'm telling you...under no condition should any sane person deal with 1&1 for domaining purposes. Pay an extra dollar and use Moniker or an extra two and use Dynadot.

Wow, I must be lucky then... the seller had the auth code information (and unlocked the domain) after I showed him on 1and1's FAQ where to get it, and once I initiated the transfer, my own registrar just sent emails to his admin email, and everything was okay from then on. Although I did get extremely nervous during the process, nothing additional was needed

It really annoys me. I saw like a six page ad for them in a business magazine.

Right. The one i am referring to was in PingZine magazine. I feel basd for the domain newbies who see a $5.99 price tag and jump for the thing when its god awful.

It seems obvious why they don't like domainers. It completely ruins their business plan which is, "We'll take a loss on domains because everyone will probably need hosting.". Then, they should require hosting or up their prices instead of being -bleeps-.

lol.

Oh I should have bumped my thread sooner...sorry.

8-X 1and1.com 8-X are the most abusive registrar out there. Do everything you can to discourage noobs from signing up with them.

1&1 is the worst, --- the very worst ---.

For your very best, stay out of there.

Or get ou of there as soon as you can...

Personal experience.

a while ago, when I transfered some domain out of 1and1, it required fax to
confirm the transfer, see below.

However I believe that they don't do it anymore, cancel a domain now I think
is just a simple as clicking a link. Correct me if I am wrong.

=====forwarded messages from last year======
In order for you to change the ownership of your
account please fill out the form Change of Ownership and
fax it to (610) 560 1501

The link below will walk you through where to download
the said form:

If you have any further questions please do not
hesitate to contact us.

Yes, I did mine recently as I mentioned before, and it only required the AUTH code...

Welp, I succesfully (i hope) transferred one domain out of 1&1 to Moniker and cancelled one.

On the one that I transferred out, the nameservers were still 1&1's, so I made sure to change em. Hopefully I won't get charged.

I just did a transfer from 1&1 to Moniker & had no issues. You should be just fine.

I've been dropping names from them over the recent months - it's a huge pain but at least there's no faxing required anymore.

Just be sure to leave 7-10 days to complete the transfer. As quoted by 1and1 suck support, that is the MINIMUM amount of time they require to remove thumbs from rectums, dilly-dally, insert obstacles, and then finally hit the fricken button.

I have done transfers & none ever came close to 7 days. I know you have an obsession to bash them but enough is enough already.

Don't even try to tell me what to do... >:( I can bash them all I wan't.

I may also find and post the email from my tech support experience with them. Their incompetence and outright anti-consumer policies have cost me $XXX to $XXXX in bogus fees, penalties, and lost sales. That has granted me an unlimited right to bash bash bash...and bash bash bash I will...

Why don't you go ahead and start a 8-X 1and1.com 8-X love fest thread and see how many join your party

8-X 1and1.com 8-X aka 1&1 Internet Services, Inc. Sucks!

I recently tried to cancel my 5 free infos, which was the only thing I ever got through them and I can't find anything in the control panel to cancel them. I emailed them asking how to cancel and they told me that I can do it from tha control panel... So what do I do now? :)

I'm sure everything was their fault & you did no wrong. People get your point about 1&1. I guess it is your life long mission to go into every 1&1 thread with the same story. I guess bumping the thread isn't enough.

Whatever floats your boat kid.

Just go to http://cancel.1and1.com and login and do it from there. They try to hide that URL from you, but that should work for ya.

cool, i went through the cancellation process and it is indeed telling me that I need to fill out a form and fax it back for each domain in order for it to be canceled... Thats a load and a half. Maybe I'll just "lose" my credit card and get my bank to issue me a new one, sounds a lot easier :)
