domains Take A Risk - Buy The Right Domain

Spaceship Spaceship
I saw a video this week from two NamePros members: @Omar Negron and @Willox Perez on their story of why you should sometimes trust yourself to take a risk on a domain name you like.

Their story started with a domain name they backordered at NameJet: OrderSushi.com. In the video, Omar says that they had "a good feeling about the domain" and "we felt there was a good possibility in the name." However, after bidding up to around $130, the pair decided against bidding further.

According to NameBio.com, the domain sold at NameJet for $140. Then, a matter of weeks later, Omar and Will noticed that the domain had sold again on Flippa; this time for $1,805 with 42 bids submitted.

Whilst you should never dwell on domain names that you almost owned, or sold only to see the same name sell for much more, I find the story very interesting. It shows firstly that you should sometimes trust your instincts and submit just one more bid, or just go that little bit higher.

Secondly, it shows that Flippa can be a great marketplace to sell domain names. We hear plenty of stories about high figure sales to Chinese investors at NameJet, but when marketed correctly, Flippa can produce some excellent results.

Here's the original video from @Omar Negron and @Willox Perez

Nice example! Yep this happens probably a lot more than we could guess. Congrats to all parties involved on this one. It was a great lesson for Will and I.

Next time, when I get that GUT feeling, I AM going to listen to it. LOL!

That was a nice name, and no one have know for how much it could be sold, so its a good lesson.

Agreed. I personally think it could be a great name for development in the food niche.

Nice story gentlemen.

Look at it this way, the bidder could have ran the auction up and left you both with zero room for profit. You probably saved yourself some $ in the end.

True. I guess we would never know if he would have ran up the auction cuz as stated on the video, we stopped at around $130.

You never really know how much someone will continue to bid once your in a bidding war.

Was bidding on 2 and lost both. From this I came to realise that you don't have a clue who your bidding against! Is it an end user, a re-seller or GD themselves?? Maybe they would have stopped at nothing to win and maybe that was the same in the case of OrderSushi.com! if I had gone an extra $10 at the end and the other bidder doesn't stop then that extra $10 could quickly turn into $100 and then you go way over the budget you set out in the first place. In my case, I'm a re-seller and I was already bidding over budget.

One things for sure, there is nothing more annoying when you see a domain you like, it has 2 hours to go, there are no bids on it and then someone comes in with minutes to go and does not stop till they got what they want.

I tried to score colorology.com a couple weeks back and i forgot to connect my paypal for bidding verification. I usually don't bid on auctions and i guess godaddy changed the bidding process. Oh well that's how it goes i guess.

Instincts made me bid too much on a name I should never have in the first place. Now I just have to develop the name cos I dont think I'll ever get a buyer to even buy at the purchase price.

I learned my lesson though; Always know when to STOP.

Amen to that!

It's hard not to get emotional when you REALLY REALLY want something and think it has potential. I think the best in the industry know how to take their emotions out of it and buy for the best possible price possible.

Thanks for sharing!

I had to pull back from an auction the other day cos my emotion was not matching my budget. As much as it is good to follow your instinct, one must also know when to stop!

Of course.

Don't let your emotions take over. It's hard to do when your in the heat of the moment. That doesn't only apply to domain names. ;)

Nice one. Agreed.
