I have recently come across an available domain that is available in both .org and .us. Which one is the more valuable of the two? Would the value of the domain differ if it were say, someproduct.org as as opposed to somename.us? Keep in mind that I am new at this lol. Any advice is welcome thanks

In general, it depends on the kind of website you want to build and your target audience. In most basic scenarios .org is not a bad idea, its an established gTLD, but if you are building an online shop lets say, it simply won't cut it for that purpose.

Then comes the audience. Buying a country specific TLD like .us (altho it doesn't have the restrictions of many ccTLDs) can be justified if your business operates in the US and that is where your visitors are coming from too.

In any ways, if the .com of your domain name is taken, choosing a different extension is not such a great idea as you are facing much more challenges like researching any possible copyright issues with them, losing traffic to the much more popular extension etc. So you might still be best looking around or a good .com to begin with.

Awesome! Thanks Rado. The .com is taken for the domain i'm looking at, and your response gives me a much better idea of what the .us would mean if attached to the name. I'm going for the .org I thinkk

If you are going to use the domain for a commercial website, the .org isn't the best suggestion. If you are going commercial and in the US, I'd suggest using the .us. If you are just buying to resell, both are not great. Stick with .com's.
